It was late fall, and A's garden was drifting into winter quiescence. His greenhouse and the mangosteen grove, however, were in full flower! Between the remainder of the pumpkins and the fine crop of mangosteens, A had gone on a bit of a cooking spree

Seeing the sign, Rika figures that she doesn't have to ask permission to take a snack or pay for it, so she takes a piece of zucchini bread from the table.

"Is Light the son of Soichiro Yagami?" she asks, looking up at A, before taking a bite from the bread.

"He..." A frowns. "Yes. Yes, he is."

"Does he regret what he did? I heard about what he did from his father," she says. Rika deals with death in every world she lives in, so she is more forgiving than those who do not have best friends that murder and torture each other and having to face them again as if nothing happened.

"Oh," A says softly. "I, I don't think so. I talked to him once, showed him where to go to get a wand. My cats didn't like him."

"And that is enough for you to know if he has any regrets? Or does it not matter to you how he feels?" Rika isn't judging him, just curious.

"I don't care how he feels. He killed..." L "...people that matter. That matter to me."

[fatedjune]

"Have you tried to get revenge?" Rika hopes not, because she has seen that revenge never helps. The dead stay dead and the abused stay broken, then the police get involved and it becomes a great mess.

"I... I, he, he..." A looks away, clearly troubled. L had told him not to, ordered him not to, but... "I wanted to."

"I am glad that you did not, because I know some who have for the ones they loved and it only caused them more problems in the end," Rika takes another bite from the bread she took. "This is good, did you make it yourself?"

"I made it, yes," A tells her, relieved at the change of subject. "I didn't realize the zucchini I planted would grow so much."

"It is always fun when something unexpected happens," well unexpected deaths aren't fun, but most things are kept from being boring if there are random results.

[i_am_an_hero]

"It is. So many good things can happen!"

[fatedjune]

"I like it best when something is not so predictable that you know the end result long before it happens. Like a sudden rainshower on a day that was supposed to be sunny."

[i_am_an_hero]

"I, I think I like rain when it is warm," A said thoughfully. "Everything is so green afterward. I don't think I like it in cold weather."

"Cold or warm, it breaks up endless days of sunshine in the summer and in winter it's better when it snows because then you have more to play with the next day when it's too cold out for other games," weather that ruins the mood can also be a good thing because it isn't a continuation of the same thing every boring day.

"It rains often enough, here," he observed. "Scotland's hardly a desert."
