Open office hours for Kusuriyuri

Jul 19, 2008 04:45

There was much happening around Kusuriyuri. Another youkai at the school was possibly the most disturbing to him. He also had the sense of something approaching, too vague to really pin down and he didn't use his fortune telling devices on himself ( Read more... )

In what had been a series of Very Long Days, Kurama was sure this one was slated to be the longest. Hopefully, not in the way the fiasco with Vanyel had been; he was still getting weird nightmares from that situation, the the most recent of being attacked by Zombie Kool-Aid Man, and... that was just a little too much on the weird side, even for him.

He decided that now would be the best time to take Kusuriyuri up on his offer of tea and a little light conversation. He casually strode to Kusuriyuri's office, bowing at the door and waiting for an invitation. It would not do to be impolite, today.

Kusuriyuri returns the bow from where he is kneeling. "Please, come in. Have a seat. I have been waiting for you." He notices that the redhead seems a little drawn, but questions can wait until tea and other ceremonies have been observed.

Kurama knelt across from Kusuriyuri, bowing once more before settling comfortably.
"I have been looking forward to speaking with you," he said, folding his hands in his lap. He let his gaze pass once around the room, before settling on the other Youkai.

"As have I," Kusuriyuri murmurs. "Would you like tea? It is jasmine and lemongrass?" He pours himself a cup while waiting for Kurama's answer.

He nodded. "Please." He felt calmer already, though he would have to be of sharpest wits with this one. But it was a welcome change from the very complicated and very noisy goings-on elsewhere in the castle.

"You're a teacher, I don't recall if you mentioned what it is you teach?" He asked, watching as Kusuriyuri poured. Someone had mentioned it, but he'd forgotten in all the distraction.

Kusuriyuri poured the tea and offered the cup to Kurama. "That is so." Amusement trickles into his voice. "I was requested to teach divination."

He accepted the cup with a tiny bow and took a sip. It was good, damn good, and he was sure that the ingredients had come from A's garden.
"A tricky subject," he said, setting down the cup. "The results vary so vastly from person to person, so many layers to get past. It must be an interesting class to teach."

but he teaches it well, that much is evident, if A is any indication.

"Your students speak highly of you."

"Oh? Is that so?" Kusuriyuri murmurs. "I think they find it difficult, from their expressions." This is said with a touch of pride. "I have focused on the background only, on truth, form, and reason. I have not begun with procedure yet." Only A and Matt have had practical lessons.

"What are your curriculum plans like, then?" Keep things simple, small talk. It was safer that way, and he was interested in what kind of lessons Kusuriyuri would be teaching. He was here to learn, after all.

Kusuriyuri outlines the lessons he has given, including the most recent lesson and the discussion he had with Wishbone about regret.

"I also have private students," he adds, taking a sip of tea when he finishes his summary.

One of them being A, he thought.
"Is A one of them? He's the one who spoke to me about you." And he seems to have a huge amount of hero-worship, too.

Kusuriyuri nods. "That is so. He has a knack for plants and medicine. He learns quickly and is eager to please." So much praise from him.

He has more than just a knack, if I'm not crazy, he thought. He kept it quiet though, and put a serene smile on his face.
"He's a good kid, and was very kind to me when I arrived. And, this knack of his has bloomed into an impressive garden. He told me he's only just started."

Kusuriyuri notices the interest. It seems Kurama has adapted to the more modern directness. "The garden was planted in late spring, though the green house is about a month old."

He examines the kitsune. "And your plans?" he asks blandly, taking a sip of tea.

"To learn, of course. What else is a school for?" Except for, you know, socialization and such... Though, exactly what it was he was 'learning' would remain to be seen. He very much doubted that Koenma's plans for sending him here were anything more than revenge for all the trouble, paperwork, and stolen pens over the years.

Kusuriyuri raises an eyebrow. "And your interest in my deshi?" he asks, deliberately using the word he'd chosen for A. He feels it would be better for that to be established at the beginning. "Much has been done with him thus far. I will not allow that to be compromised."
