Vanyel came flying through the halls and into the sorting room at a dead run. He'd felt, well, he'd felt something that felt like 'Lendel, and he had to know what was going on. And he'd heard that some of the people here had died, first. Hell, he might've died first himself.

As he came into the room, he suddenly came to a full stop a couple of feet from Tylendel. His face was a sickly paper white, and his jaw had dropped. " 'Lendel?" he managed to ask, his voice faint in shock. One shaky hand was reaching out towards the other boy, stopping just short of touching him.

Tylendel blinked in surprise to see Vanyel in such a state. Poor Van's mind was a complete mess, and he was projecting. Van didn't project, he didn't have the gift...

That was immatterial, though. He was here, wasn't he? That's all that mattered.

"Van, ashke," he said, voice soothing and hands reaching to touch his lover, "you're a mess, peacock; you look like you've seen a ghost!"

He stood there, still silent in his shock for a moment. A few tears slid down his pale face, as Tylendel's hands touched him, and didn't disappear. Vanyel flung himself convulsively into Tylendel's arms, wrapping his own arms around his lover.

Tears slid down Vanyel's face as he held tight to Tylendel, his face buried in the other man's shirt. "Just stay," he murmered.

"Of course, Van," He murmured, holding him tight and making soothing noises. He stroked Vanyel's hair, still confused, still very concerned. His head was a muddle, a total warzone of complicated emotions Tylendel couldn't put his finger on, nor discern quite why they were there. If Van had suddenly developed a Gift, why wasn't Savil there? What had happened?
"What's wrong, ashke? Why are you hurting so?"

If it was something he'd done... he'd never forgive himself.

Vanyel shook his head. "You're here. That's what matters," he said. His hands were still clamped tightly in Tylendel's shirt.

"Of course," he smiled, embracing Vanyel back, though with not nearly as tight a grip that he was enduring. "Ashke, you couldn't keep me away. Not even from as strange a place as this."

"Just don't leave,"he murmured. "I don't think I couldtake that again." He snuggled close against Tylendel, breathing in his lover's scent.

Any answers he had to that were firmly in monosyllabic territory, mostly concerning "what," "huh," and "buh," so he settled again with making gentle noises at his very troubled love. How long had he been gone? Sure, his memories were fractured, but whatever transport got him here surely had to have been a gate

-Fire, Gala, Staven, Wyrsa, kill him, kill him for what he did-

But there had never been a time discrepancy before. And this hurt of Van's... who had done this to him?

"Ashke," he managed after a moment, "has someone hurt you? Did something happen?"

He looked up at Tylendel, tears in his eyes. "You don't remember it, do you?" he asked. "Not any of it?"

"No, I..." His own head was starting to hurt now, not just reverberations from Vanyel. "I don't understand, Vanyel, what happened? Were you hurt?"

"Shhh, 'Lendel. Don't worry about it," he said, concerned himself. "This isn't the time. I will tell you, but not now. And I'll be fine." Vanyel was deeply worried. If Lendel had repressed everything, then he was likely to do a great deal of damage, either to himself, or this place, when those memories came back. And his sorting was not the place for that.

He smiled then, his ehad still feeling shaky, but he trusted Van's judgment. Whatever had happened, it would be best to wait. For now, he was glad that they were together, and confused still as to where exactly this place was.

"What is "sorting?" Like some kind of evaluation?"

He nodded. "They decide where you're supposed to sleep. It's like a dormitiory grouping. But I hear people move to be with the people they care about, so it doesn't matter if they put you where I am. One of us can move," he said. He really was relieved that Tylendel wasn't asking him questions about what had happened before. His grip on 'Lendel loosened, as he settled down against him.

"I think you're likely to end up in Gryffindor anyways," he said. "the description I was given of it, before they put me there, sounded much more like you than me."

"You mean it's full of handsome, witty, heroic types like myself?" He laughed, resting his chin on Vanyel's head. "What ever will I do with all that competition? Surely you'll soon be bored of me," he joked. Why did it feel like such a relief to laugh so? No matter, just life as usual, though in a stranger setting.

"Never," Vand said fiercely. "I will never be tired of you." He's glad to see Tylendel laughing, glad that his lover seems almost back to normal, even if there are thing he doesn't remember.

"Don't take me so seriously, ashke. You know I'm just teasing." He smiled at Vanyel's ferocity, and kissed his cheek.
"Tell me about this place, I don't think I've got the whole story, yet."
