Open RP with Draco

May 24, 2008 23:09

Somehow, the novelty of magic that was so fresh and new in Draco's mind when he had started his career at Hogwarts had slowly been sucked out of him. He, as a true pure-blood citizen, was raised around magic and had seen some pretty impressive results from the wand ( Read more... )

"Excuse me," says L, quiet and without inflection.

"Do you know the way to the Ravenclaw Common Room from here? I've become turned around." He presses his thumb to his bottom lip.

"What?" Draco asked, not quite hearing the boy. His voice was quiet and sounded calm. Draco turned and looked at him, only able to make out the words "Ravenclaw".

"I'm a Slytherin, I'm not a Ravenclaw," He declared, showing the boy his emerald and gray tie.

At twenty, L isn't much of a boy any more. But he has a certain gangliness to him; Draco can be forgiven for the mistake.

"And I know where that is from here. But I can't find Ravenclaw."

Draco looked down the corridor and thought about the Ravenclaw common room. He stepped forward and pointed.

"You go that way. Once you turn the corner, ask someone else. It gets confusing."

"I have near-perfect recall, but if you'd rather."

He inclines his head.

"Thank you for your help. Can I ask quickly, how did you get a uniform for here?"

"I'd rather you ask someone when you get around the corner like I said." Draco told him once more.

He looked down at his Slytherin clothes. The clothes he had specially made for him before coming to Hogwarts. "I had them embroidered by the best seamstress my family knows." He rubbed his fingers over the snake in the emblem.

"I was here before. I was a student before all of this happened."

"All of this meaning the influx of citizenry from different universes."

He presses a thumb to his bottom lip.

"That was probably a difficult adjustment to make."

"Yes. That's exactly what I meant. All the muggles running around here." Draco looked as though he had a sour taste in his mouth. Something about the boy's articulation fooled Draco into assuming he was a wizard.

"'Muggles,' is that the term for someone from another universe?"

He continues to trace his bottom lip.

"I understand your resentfulness. The integrity of this academic institution has no doubt been partially compromised by our presence. The assortment of personalities are distracting, and I doubt the furby makes an effective headmistress."

"You're a muggle," Draco declared after hearing the man's admission that he was one of the intruding forces.

"A muggle is someone who doesn't belong at a school for witchcraft and wizardry. That's what a muggle is." Draco felt disappointed in his previous trust of the man.

"I don't really have a choice about it," L admits, with a faintly indulgent smile.

"I merely awoke, covered in butter. The career I was taken away from was much more rewarding than what was promised me here, though I have made the best of it." Namely, Matt.

Draco grunted and didn't want to say anything back to that. He never thought of it that way.

"You could run away," He suggested. "Or kill yourself. Both are logical ways to avoid being here."

"You're a little overdramatic," L thumbs his bottom lip.

"Besides, it's important for me to get back to my time and country, I'm an important detective, and there is work still to be done. The best way for that to happen seems to be to remain here."

"I'm not over-dramatic. I am totally justified. You see this school in a sort of before and after and you'd be upset too." Draco laughed with a patronizing tone.

"Important detective."

"Important detective," L replies, in his usual monotone.

"As I said. I appreciate that the academic standards have been compromised."

"Hm. I don't." Draco admitted. "But they never were that outstanding to begin with. Hogwarts has always been inferior. Just even more so now." He sighed. "It's a tragedy, really."
