"I suppose I've traveled to so many different places and times that time has ceased to matter. Maybe it couldn't keep up with me. Or maybe because I chose to ignore it, it chose to ignore me."
"Lewiston, Maine. There was a hospital there with a little girl haunting it, and causing all sorts of problems. I made sure she was able to rest, which subsequently helped the hospital a great amount as well."
"So you're like an exorcist? That's kind of interesting... Quite a few of the people I've met here have died." Including Matt. "None of us are ghosts, though. That I know of."
"Exorcist isn't exactly right. I mean, if I needed the services of one I'd probably have to get one. There seem to be rules on how much I can do myself when I'm trying to solve problems. Each universe has its own people that should be doing the work. Im more of a guide that has to occasionally step in."
"They might not be as dead as they think. I've seen tranformation and transportation both masked as death before."
Okay, this really was sort of interesting. "Rules as in official rules, or rules you can't break no matter what? And there are definitely different universes?"
Matt pulls out a cigarette. "Well, I remember getting the fuck shot out of me, but yeah. There's a heartbeat and blood and all that." A wry grin. "If it was supposed to just be a transformation I don't see why it needed to hurt so much."
"Rules that I couldn't break even if I wanted to. Its physically impossible for me to. As for your transport here, I think a traumatic experience opens up some humans mentally, and allows them to use the areas of their brain necessary for such travel to occur."
"Astral travel via getting pumped full of bullets?" But... maybe that made sense. It didn't explain L or Near, but the rest of them... hmm.
"There are rules like that here. On the same theme, actually, now I think about it - it's impossible to die on the school grounds." He shrugs, taking a draw. "Dunno how that works, though."
Antubis looked a little surprised for the first time. Impossible to die? Whatever problems he had to solve here would be far ranging indeed. He knew there would be problems. Wherever he went here were problems.
"So I could let someone shoot me dead right here, and just get back up like I had laid down for a nap?"
"So you've been alive for thousands of years? Huh. How does that work?"
