As soon as he could leave the Sorting Room, Bean went to find out as much as he could about the castle he was now in.
The first thing he wanted to explore was the flues, which would surely work in a similar way to the ventilation routes at Battle School. While he was much larger than he had been as a Launchie, he was still small enough for this; he found an empty room, stripped, and spent some time working out how useful an escape route (or information route) they could be.
Half an hour later it was clear that the biggest problem would be concealing what he was doing whenever he used the flues in this manner. His clothes, left in a neat pile in front of the fireplace, were in perfect condition; his face, hair, hands and - in fact - the rest of his body were covered in soot. Putting clean clothes over this didn't hide much.
Now he'd simply need to locate the closest shower room...
