It really is big. I'm still in the Great Hall. I found my way here and didn't think I'd find it again if I went looking for Hufflepuff, so I've been here ever since! People keep asking if I'm okay, though. I don't know why, the benches are really comfortable here...

At the Great Hall

Hey, Phoenix made it without getting lost! Or encountering one of those moving staircases! That doesn't mean he and Pearl won't encounter them on the way back, but here's hoping!

Anyway, Phoenix looked around a bit before spotting Pearl.

"There you are Pearls! Ready to go to Ravenclaw?" he asked, holding out his hand.

Pearl had finished off a bar of sea salt ice cream, and had politely asked a house elf for a napkin. So she was currently preoccupied with grilling the elf as to what numerous random items and people she saw were. Said house elf looked a bit poleaxed in the face of the stream of polite but endless questions.

"Oh! Mr. Nick!" She hopped up from the bench, hair loops bouncing excitedly, and turned and quickly bowed to the house elf. "Thank you, but I have to go now." As the house elf blinked, Pearl tucked her ball under one arm and took Phoenix's hand with the other. "Ready!"

"Let's go then!" Phoenix led the way back to Ravenclaw. "Were you nice to the house elf?"

Pearl nodded. "Yes! His name is Tobby. He was very nice, but he seemed so nervous. He almost dropped the tray when I asked if he could hold my hair ribbon," she added. "Did I do something wrong? I just didn't want it to get dirty."

She had already tied one of the pink ones in a bow around the knot that held her hair loops in place.

"Um...." Okay Nick, you know this one. Now what did he hear? "I think it's because giving a house elf a piece of clothing is a bad thing. It's how you would fire them." Eh, good enough.

"I didn't know that! I hope he's not mad. Do hair ribbons count as clothing?" Pearl wondered, skipping alongside Phoenix to match his longer strides. "I guess that's why they're dressed that way. I hope they don't get cold."

They came to the moving staircases then, and Pearl's eyes widened as one of the landings came away from the railing and glided downward. "Look! They're moving! How are they doing that?"

"I think he'll be fine. And I think they prefer the cold." He's totally BSing, but hey, Pearl doesn't know that.

"They're moving by magic Pearls, pure magic. Now, be very careful whenever you're on a staircase, you never know which ones move."
