Ahhh.

Not Hufflepuff, I think... hmm.

Definitely not Hufflepuff. My vote is for Slytherin because we need some more sensible people and I can't see you tolerating the drunks in Ravenclaw.

What a charming young lady.

No doubt you're a Ravenclaw... I only hope you're not the drunk sort. We have enough of those already.

The Ravenclaws seem like they would be are an interesting bunch if they'd only lay off the sauce. However, I think I might be able to relate to the sensibilities of some of Slytherin's residents. I'm not entirely certain, though. Given that Granddad is in Hufflepuff and Death of Rats seems to be inching in that direction, I'm a little surprised that the general opinion seems to pointing me away from there.

You sound like a promising individual indeed. A pity that my house would seem not to suit you. I'm actually inclined to put you in Ravenclaw, but if you'd prefer another...?

It seems possible that Ravenclaw might be suitable.

I am curious, though -- what is it about Hufflepuff that makes you (and several others, apparently) think I'm unsuitable? I ask purely in a spirit of more or less scientific inquiry; this whole sorting business occasionally seems a little arbitrary.

On the contrary, I do not believe you are unsuitable at all. You do not seem at all adverse to hard toil, and if you work with small children, you must have a great deal of patience. However, a Hufflepuff vote on my part would be a wasted vote, as the majority seems set against that assignment, and I would like to be useful here. This is not to say that I wouldn't vote Hufflepuff if you wished me to, however.

It is fairly arbitrary, I agree. Of course, the votes you have received thus far are negligible in comparison to the hat's opinion of you, and I do not believe the hat makes its decisions lightly.
