Cox and Murphy: A Tiny Little Curse, Perhaps (Infimary)

May 25, 2007 16:51

She didn't want to do it. Lord, she didn't want to do it, she didn't want to get anyone else involved, she didn't want to even talk about it, but what was she supposed to think?

It had to be a curse.

She sighed, headed down to the Infirmary, and stuck her head in.

If Cox wasn't there?

She was faking lost and getting out.

"Hello?"

These days, he pretty much wasn't ever not in the Wing. Well, okay, it wasn't so much a recent thing -- when had he not been obsessed with his job? But. Hyanyway. He was, as always, kicking back in the Wing, waiting tiredly for something of interest to happen somewhere. He was nose-deep in an issue of People, reading up on the latest in all things gossip.

At the call, he looked up, arching a brow. "Oh, hey. Murphina." He folded the magazine. "Mr. Dresden's not here, if you're lookin'."

"There are large angry Irish men out here who want to talk to you about name abuse, Cox." She slid all the way into the room and came over. "Actually, I had favor to ask. Starting with your silence about this entire trip into the wing."

"There are large angry Irish men in here, Murpharoo." He tipped his chair back and folded his arms behind his head, cocking it back to study her thoughtfully. At her request, he grinned wide, showing two lines of gleaming white teeth. "Oh, H'i~ definitely want to hear this, in that case."

She snorted at his response, but settled down in the chair opposite Perry, posture defensive, arms crossed, expression just a little dark. "I've been doing some thinking, and I'm pretty sure that I've been cursed somehow. I don't know the exact curse, or why, but I'm pretty damn sure."

She brushed her hair out of her eyes and sighed. "And I'm also pretty sure you're going to laugh. So let's just get it all out at once so I don't kill you: I think I'm being magically cockblocked."

He didn't laugh! At least... not right away. He just kind of looked at her. "Is... that what it sounds like?" he asked finally, unable to think of anything else to say.

"Yes. Dresden and I have tried forty-seven times to get together and we've been interrupted every damn time. I have the last thirty or so in a notebook."

"You realize, there's just too much crazy in that statement for me to even begin to compute." Cox stared at her, blinking owlishly, quite honestly flabbergasted. He shook his head a few times, but apparently that wasn't the solution, because nope -- she was still sitting there and looking at him with perfect seriousness.

Okay, then. "I'm not a sex therapist, just-- you know, so you know that," he pointed out. "I'm damn good at it, but it is not my area of medical expertise."

"Do I look like I want to talk to anyone about this? I think we're cursed, Cox. It's been things like you knocking on the door, or, Bob getting lost, or dozens of other things. Here." She shoved the notebook at him.

"Oh, no." He shoved his chair back and held up his hands, looking deeply alarmed. "First thing's first, I do not want to know. At all. Ever. That is the first rule of all this."

He folded his arms and pulled his lips back against his teeth, narrowing his eyes. Really, he ought to send her to Lily, but she was overworked as it was and he didn't particularly feel like validating her anyway. "I assume you have something good to offer me in return?" he said finally.

"It's just how we got distracted or interrupted, not about the sex itself." She sighed and pulled the notebook back. "I have no idea how to bribe you, Cox. You're going to have to tell me what you want."

He took that to mean she was offering him whatever he wanted, which sounded like a decent deal, anyway. "I might have to think about that," he admitted. "Maybe we can just say you owe me a favor." But oh, when he thought of something... "Lemme see that book again."

Sexual frustration makes a woman do terrible things.

She handed over the notebook again, full of her small, tidy writing.

May 15 - bookshelf collapsed, injuring Dresden's shoulder

May 18 - despite scheduling a date, had schedule conflicts all day

And so on and so forth. Days. Weeks. Plenty of attempts, dates, moments, and none of them working out.

Cox flipped through a couple of pages, his eyebrows climbing up towards his hairline as he scanned them. Jesus. "You know, most women just keep a diary." He was including JD in this, of course. Just in case anyone was wondering about that.

"I mean... lookit, I'm not promising anything, keep that in mind." He snapped the book shut and held it up. "But I'll see what I can do. God forbid you crazy kids don't get to have your awkward sex all over the castle."

"There's a reason there's not more. I don't normally keep any of this at all, but it just started to drive me insane."

She relaxed a little. "Thank you. I just want sex once in a damn bed, frankly." She rubbed the back of her neck. "Don't tell Dresden I asked, either. He's kind of a private person."

"Well, now, on the one hand, you're depriving me of the pleasure of watching him squirm. On the other hand, I ree-heeeally do not want to have this conversation with another person." He squinted, scowled thoughtfully, and then suddenly brightened and smirked. "I do notice that you have yet to use the magic word, Murphina."

She gave him a very very flat look. "... you are not actually going to play this game."
