Stephen sighed. This might not go well.

He addressed her in French, with the Parisian accent he had picked up while residing in that city.

Reinette cocks her head to the side for a moment, impressed by this man’s impeccable use of the French language and contemplates her response. When she does speak it is with barely contained mirth.

“My good man, if what you say is true and I have somehow been transported out of my time, I must inform you that it is not the first time this has happened and certainly won’t be the last. Not everyone travels life on the slow path and not always in straight lines. I will see my King again, if that is what I desire.”

Unimpressed, Stephen raised an eyebrow.

“You sir, have no imagination. Je suis fini avec vous.”

"So, you're like..." Hm. Steph wanted to say hooker, but that was probably rude. The royals’ sex lives hadn’t been covered in History class. Which was a shame, because maybe then, she wouldn’t have slept through it. "A professional girlfriend?"

Reinette smiles, amused by this question. "I suppose that description is rather accurate, if a little strange."

"Huh. So, is there like, a 401k that goes along with that? A dental package? Do you get time and a half?" This was a golden opportunity: Steph had always wondered why women chose to be mistresses, but it’s hard to find someone willing to speak openly about it. This 'homewrecker', to borrow the phrase, seemed pretty nice about all of it!

"Benefits?" Reinette thinks about this for a moment before answering. "I have my own rooms at the palace of Versailles. I hold much political sway with the king and many of his decisions come directly from my suggestions. I am responsible for deciding which artisans to patron and what trends and styles the court will embrace. The regiment wears purple because it is my favorite color. The pompadour haircut, high heeled shoe, and rose are all named after me, and the Coupe de Champagne, or French champagne glass was styled after the shape of my breast. I think that’s a bit better than a dental plan, yeah?”

Luna considered the woman with interest. "You could get me anything I desire, hmmm? Does that include those little foil-wrapped chocolate bunnies? I missed the sale on leftover Easter candy."

"I offer a kingdom full of wonders and what does this child request? Chocolate Bunnies!" Reinette laughs, the sound pleasant and without malice, "I suppose I could find some of those somewhere if that is what you really want, but if I were you I'd think a little harder."

"Well, you can't really give me what I most want in the world, which is definitive proof that Albus Dumbledore is really Elvis Presley, so I suppose the chocolates will have to do."

Reinette frowns slightly, completely out of her element when it comes to these peculiar names. She decides to ignore it and just give the strange child what she wants. "Okay. I'll have someone find you some chocolate."

((Brilliant! Also, squee!))

Penny entered the Sorting Room and stopped dead at the sight of the new applicant. "What -- how --?" She took a deep breath, staring. "Who are you?"

Reinette stands abruptly, her voluminous skirts swishing violently about her legs. The shocked expression on her face says it all. This was so much more embarrassing than wearing the same dress as the Countess Danielle D’Loncrais at last year’s winter ball. Then an idea occurs to her. "Um, could someone please tell me what year I seem to have found myself in?"

Penny recovered her faltering aplomb with some effort. She'd heard of doppelgangers here at Hogwarts before - she'd just never expected it could happen to her. "2007, although it's not my time either." She held out her hand. "Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward. Call me Penny. I feel as though we should know each other, don't you?" she added with a hint of a smile.

Reinette quickly regains her practiced pleasant manner and takes Lady Penelope's hand; squeezing it gently as she contemplates the possibilities rushing through her mind. "It's very nice to meet a Lady here,” Reinette glances around at some of the less polite characters present. “VERY nice.”

A new person! And she looked pretty!

"Rein-Rein looks pretty!"

Ed thought for a second. Was there anything she wanted? Well since Ein wasn't here and Ed wanted a friend...

"Can Ed have a dog?"

Reinette seems slightly taken aback by this strange character’s enthusiasm. She quickly composes herself however to grant his request. "Do you like poodles?"

"Ed likes all dogs!" And Ed does. She grinned at Reinette.

"Well then," Reinette says with an indulgent smile. "I'll have a puppy delivered as soon as it's weaned"
