Open RP: Mini!Molly out beyond the front steps

Childhood was more amazing than Molly could have dreamed.

Knocking two feet off her height should not have been enough to change her perception of the world, but it had. The world is so much different when you’re only four feet high--bigger, brighter, more real. And ‘real’, in Molly’s case, was not something to be taken for granted, for her concept of reality was…elastic…at best.

She ran all through the castle, up and down the corridors, until she burst out into the courtyard. It was cool outside, with massive clouds stitched across the sky like a quilt. Everything--everything--was different; all her senses were so much more awake, so much more aware than they were for her adult self. Her imagination, always vivid, no longer tossed mental caltrops all along the path of her thought--every idea that entered her head was clear and sharp, and her daydreams, for the first time since she couldn’t remember when, were wholly her own.

Molly had heard the Narrator since she was seventeen--well over half her life. She knew she had once been different; if she thought hard enough, she could remember a time when she knew the meaning of the word ‘silence.’ But memory is not the same as experience, and now, if only for now, the Narrator and all his poisons were gone, and she was quite literally free.

And Molly knew it. Much of her mind had reverted to the age of eight, but enough of her adult consciousness remained that she knew this time was precious. So she ran, chasing pigeons and searching for others to play with. The half-formed ache in her heart, the ache that adult Molly-mind knew all too well, could be ignored for a while, buried by this bizarre and lovely freedom.

It was heaven. And if she couldn't keep it forever, she'd keep it as long as she could.
