Not quite prefect hours but an open rp in the Gryffindor common room with the other prefect.

It was another of those times you didn't ask where Jack had acquired something from. This time it was a few arcade machines. Which had been suitably adapted to work in their new location and the best part was for free. It was just as he'd said, there was DDR two of them together, a rather worn but still none the less working original Pacman and ( Read more... )

The machines weren't completely alien to Fraser, but they were close to. Video games weren't exactly common in the Yukon, and less so in his particular corner of it. A little unsettled by their sudden appearance in the Common Room, he approached them curiously, only to spot Jack on the couch. \

"Ah! Captain Harkness." He brightened. "I take it you're on duty?" he inquired, nodding towards the little sign. "I've actually been meaning to talk to you."

Jack sat up at the voice. "Yes." More sort of. "Sure!" He pointed to the end of the sofa as he moved. "Take a seat, what's up?"

"Well, actually, I have something for you." Fraser held up a hand. "Would you mind giving me a moment?" He tipped his hat politely to the prefect.

Jack was intrigued. "Course not, I'm here to listen so feel free."

"Excellent! I'll be right back." Fraser replaced his hat and quickly left. He returned after a few minutes, carrying a sheet of parchment.

"When I heard you'd been made Prefect, Captain," he explained, "I took the liberty of examining the House and compiling a list of those things that need repairing or replacing. I thought that it might be a good... leaping off point for you, as it were." He smiled brightly, as if he were handing over a gift, and held the parchment out to Jack.

Jack didn't know what to say. Well what could he say to that except a slightly confused "Thanks," as he took the list. "Well... would these be in priority order?" he asked as he scanned the page. "Anything you'd want to see first?" Wow this was thorough.

It was indeed thorough; a meticulous, itemized list of everything Fraser had found lacking on the grounds. The sheet was covered with things like The candle-holders on the right side of the second-floor stairs are loose and the Common Room flue may be starting to clog.

"They're not in any particular order, no." Fraser shook his head, clasping his hands behind his back with a genial smile. "Simply things I thought might want attending to, now that we have someone to attend to them."

So most could be given to the house elves to do, so that was somewhat a blessing, but hey if it made him look good and be useful he wasn't going to complain at all. "Right, I'll start at the top and work though." He smiled folding the list and putting in a pocket to keep safe. "Anything else you want to talk about?"

Fraser tipped his head thoughtfully to the side, cracking his neck. "Not especially. How is it going so far? I see you've installed your machines." He nodded towards the mini-arcade, trying to keep his expression neutral. They were just so... odd-looking!

"It's okay so far. Though honestly I've not done a whole lot as yet apart from that." Jack grinned. "Yeah just a bit of fun and Pacman will score me some good point with JD." He laughed slightly.

"JD?" It wasn't a name he recognized. "I thought the head of our house was Professor Colbert, sir?"

"Just some guy." Jack's smile said it was more than just some guy. And he wanted to roll his eyes. "Please, it's just Jack, I get enough people calling me sir back where I work." How did they always find him.

The hint would have worked better on anyone but Benton Fraser, who tended to be a little impervious. As it was, he nodded, looking a little blank. "I... see." At the admonishment, he ducked his head, then nodded. "Jack, then, Captai-- Jack." He gave Jack a slight, quirky smile. "My apologies; I'm not used to referring to superiors by given name."

"Wait what? I'm not your superior, hey I don't even like to pull rank on my lot unless I really have to." Jack frowned, then shrugged. "And you don't have to apologise for it either, you're like a friend of mine, you'd like him I think."

Fraser considered this, scratching his forehead. "Well... you are my superior. You're the Prefect -- I'm merely a student. And you're a Captain and I'm a Constable, although not in the same force. But I appreciate the sentiment, s-- Jack." He smiled, clasping his hands once more behind his back, almost in a military position.

"It's just a word that's all. Doesn't mean a whole lot, besides if you knew half of the things I've done before I changed..." Jack trailed off and shook his head. "Please get a chair. Sit down. You're making me feel like I should be well, working, least a little more actively." Like that was going to happen then. "So how is the whole Mountie thing? If you don't mind me asking?"
