An Unfortunate Meeting: Sirius and Thomas (closed RP)

Jan 29, 2007 00:47

((Backdated to the evening of 1/26, after the big fight between Sirius and Lily over Bombalurina and Lily and Thomas's tryst. Note: I'm going out of town until the evening of 1/30, so I won't be able to reply until then.))

Sirius was not a happy camper. His huge fight with Lily earlier that day had left him feeling extremely anxious and irritable ( Read more... )

Thomas came down the stairs, freshly showered, and moved to the bar to check and see if his abandoned beer was still there. He didn't really expect it to be... and sure enough, it wasn't. House elves cleaning up, or something else.

Oh well. He could find a new beer without any trouble. A less solid brew, if such a thing existed on this side of the ocean. He leaned over the bar to look at the variety, and offered a distracted sort of smile to the determined-looking man. "Is there any beer here that doesn't involve a pound of yeast, do you know?"

"Hmmmmm?" Sirius stopped and turned to look at Thomas, his eyebrows raised in distracted surprise. He didn't recall meeting this bloke before, and he hadn't been expecting anyone to speak to him out of the blue.

But he had heard the question, so after taking a moment for it to register, he said, "Oh, erm...I think there's some American stuff called Miller Lite on a low shelf all the way on the left behind the bar. It's probably warm, but you could always use a Cooling Charm if that's how you like your beer." He paused and then couldn't help adding with a very small smile, "It's really no different than drinking a bottle of fizzy water, though. Personally, I recommend Firewhisky."

"Light beer is an abomination. Yea, even unto Americans," Thomas replied solemnly, then sighed. "You Brits are such beer snobs. I shudder to think what you all say about German beer, since they don't necessarily aim for it to be able to get up and walk."

Rrrrgh. He retrieved some club soda - bars always had club soda - then dropped back to the seating side of the bar. "I'm just killing some time, not on a binge." It was only a good idea to lower his inhibitions or impair his judgment when he intended to ignore one or the other anyway.

Despite his foul mood, Sirius had to chuckle at Thomas's assertion about light beer. In fact, it was sort of nice to be distracted for a bit. "Actually, the Germans brew some rather strong stuff. But I'm not so into the Muggle liquors in general," he said, shooting a sideways glance at the bar. Perhaps some Firewhisky would be in order. If anything, it might help shut out the images of Lily pressing her wand into his chest and the echoes of her harsh, cutting words in his mind. And Homsar wouldn't mind. Homsar didn't seem to mind anything except the failure of the Jeffersons to have started.

Fine. Sirius swung himself into the seat next to Thomas, who certainly seemed friendly enough and good for a bit of conversation. Reaching across the bar, he snagged himself a bottle of Firewhisky and took a swig. Then, setting the bottle down, he extended his right hand. "Sirius Black, formerly of Gryffindor, currently of Slytherin. What's your name, mate?"
