Buzz Lightyear (Toy Story)

*A small spaceship that appears to be made out of cardboard flies into the room. It lands upright on a chair, and the front opens to allow what appears to be a foot-high astronaut out.* I told them I could get that hovercraft motor to work.

"Oi, you're a Space Ranger? As in, from space? With space ships?" Franky said, grinning. This is perfect! "Y'know, I'm building a space ship right now..."

Yes, I'm a Space Ranger. *This is getting rather repetitive.*

You're building a space ship? Interesting...

"Say, would you be willing to oversee this proect? I mean, you must have all sorts of experience with this kind of stuff," Franky said, kneeling to bring himself level to Buzz.

Well, mostly I fly the ships, rather than building them, but I'm fairly familiar with how ships are put together from having to repair them. I could help with the project, yes.

"Super!" Franky shouted. He never expected someone so small to know about space ships, let alone have flown them. "So, what kinds are you familiar with?"

... Well, was there any particular kind you were planning on building?

"Well, I'm planning on using a soda drive and the classic cigar shape. No weapons system, though," Franky said, sitting down. Kneeling was starting to hurt his knees.

No weapons system makes things easier - apart from anything else, it cuts down on the programming that has to be done to the ship's computers.

Cigar-shape is good - can move through atmospheres more quickly, even if it doesn't really do much in space itself. But... soda drive? I don't think I'm familiar with that one.

Franky chuckled. "I'm not surprised that you've never heard of the soda drive. After all, I invented it. Twice as powerful as any other drive, and at least three times more compact!"

Let me guess... you shake up a bunch of soda bottles and take the caps off all at once to take off?

Why did everybody think that? "No, it utilizes the power of nucleation. Why did everybody think that? "No, it utilizes the power of nucleation. I use a super perforated ball to create the bubbles, and the drive harnesses the power of them."

Ah. So it's called a soda drive because it uses a liquid that ends up looking like soda, rather than using actual soda. Sorry, the name kind of threw me off.

It sounds very interesting - and also a lot easier to achieve than what Star Command uses.
