You know, it’s not completely true that angels can’t lie. They have cover stories when they’re visible. Their names are false, for example.
Violet, as Honesty’s best friend. Mella, as a slave in Rome.
As Dom writes the letter, Mel thinks about the falsehoods she’s had to tell humans sometimes. But she doesn’t think it matters about her name, as long as her feelings and motives are always true.
Now it’s a bit different. For as Dom leaves Mel in the room as a distraction while he waits for the optimum time to turn Brice back, she wraps her fingers around the hilt of the sword she’s hidden from him. Dom shouldn’t have to see her attacking his brother.
Mel shakes herself, ready for a fight if it comes to that, and wishes she were religious.
