Dark Wizard murdered by Boy Who Lived: six students played important part

He Who Must Not Be Named was irretrievably killed on Sunday night.
The dark wizard was planning an attack on Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry when he was ambushed by the Boy Who Lived and slayed by a killing curse. Harry Potter set out alone, but was overtaken by a group of Aurors and a prominent Unspeakable, who fought accompanying Death Eaters while he dueled with He Who Must Not Be Named.
This however was not the only event that took place around Hogwarts that night. Gryffindor prefect and seventh year Hermione Granger, alerted by her friend Potter, led five other students in routing out a band of followers in a hidden location. The six seventh years succeeded in murdering the large, venomous snake Nagini and captured several of He Who Must Not Be Named’s followers with the assistance of Auror Kingsley Shacklebolt and former Hogwarts teacher Remus Lupin, who spied the students from a distance out of school bounds and deemed it necessary to check on them.
While the Boy Who Lived’s role was vital in events, the actions of the six NEWT students also deserve note. The cause of He Who Must Not Be Named’s near-immortality had lain in the preservation of his soul in six artifacts - an abominable and unnatural undertaking possible by an obscure but potent act of dark magic. The seventh piece resided in the dark wizard’s body.
So long as one of the enchanted artifacts still existed, it was never possible to completely end his life. Over the last two years Potter and his friends had been systematically tracking down and destroying the items. Prior to the events of Sunday, only two pieces of soul remained: the one still in the dark wizard’s body, and the one entrapped inside the snake Nagini. Through the act of killing the serpent and destroying the item, Granger along with Zacharias Smith of Hufflepuff, Stephen Cornfoot of Ravenclaw, and Tracey Davis, Daphne Greengrass and Blaise Zabini of Slytherin, ensured that Potter’s mission was not in vain. Their bravery is therefore not to be underestimated.
Potter presently is alive and resting from his ordeal in Hogwarts Headmistress Minerva McGonagall’s quarters. His injuries are said not to be permanent. The other six students also sustained various ailments, but Hogwarts nurse Madam Poppy Pomfrey assured reporters that those currently in the Hospital wing should be out by the end of the week.
The killing curse is normally one of the three Unforgivables, but bearing in mind the aim in which it was committed in, the Ministry of Magic has decided not to press charges. Potter is being considered for an Order of Merlin, First Class, and Headmistress McGonagall awarded 500 points - the largest amount ever won by a single student - on his behalf to Gryffindor house. Granger and her five companions earned 200 points apiece for their respective houses.
During the several last years He Who Must Not Be Named and his vile followers had tormented and terrorized both wizarding and Muggle populations alike. Upon returning via the aforementioned dark magic, his first act of malice was to be responsible for the death of the late Cedric Diggory, beloved Hogwarts TriWizard Champion, and his mayhem had continued from that moment on. As his raison d’être was the purification of the wizarding race and the removal of those seen to be of undesirable lineage, it was ironically fitting that he was eradicated at the hands of a half-blood, and that of the six students who set upon his pet, three were of the Slytherin house traditionally associated with preserving magical culture, and the majority were purebloods. The role of newer additions to our unique and special world is not however to be slighted, as without the actions of the Muggleborn Granger, He Who Must Not Be Named would still be at large.
