Newly mortal thanks to a temporal spell going a little awry, Death left Sakon and Ukon with a wave and a smile. They were cute and she was utterly charmed by the brash little puppet and the shy puppetmaster ( Read more... )

Surprised at the request itself and the manner of it, Cas (who'd been watching his little penguin waddle engagingly around his room, investigating every corner, and was still trying to think of a good name for him) scooped up the small bird and took him along, touching down a few yards off from where Death stood.

"I heard," he said, taking a few steps closer and then...stopping, his face going blank with surprise as he registered what seemed so drastically different about her.

"What happened?" he added, eyes wide; she didn't seem upset or alarmed, so he checked his own immediate panic reaction as best he could and waited for an explanation.

Death smiled and finished closing the distance between them. "Someone was messing with a temporal spell in the courtyard and it seriously backfired." She still hadn't figured out just how they had managed to twist the spell around so, but at least she had figured that it wasn't permanent.

"I was on my way home from a few rounds and must have gotten caught up in the wake of the thing as it bubbled out. It's only temporary. I haven't figured out exactly how long it'll last," she assured him, rising up on her toes for a quick kiss, "but it's not a permanent switch."

"I'm going to need my sigil until it does wear off," she said almost apologetically. It was the one thing that kept her tied to him should anything suddenly separate them, and while she hated to lose that connection; she needed the one to her realm more.

Besides, she didn't think he'd mind if she stuck a little closer to him in the meantime.

"Of course," he said immediately, taking it out and putting it into her hands. He was simply relieved that the matter wasn't too serious, though by the sounds of it, it easily could have been. "I hope whoever miscast the spell understands how dangerous such mistakes can be."

“I think they do. I tried to steer them off the temporal stuff. Those are always dangerous, even when you know what you’re doing.” Death slipped the pendant around her neck with a relieved smile. The metal of the ankh flared a brilliant silver-white when it came into contact with her skin before gradually dimming and going dark again. Her connection to her realm was distant, but tangible. It would be enough to make sure things continued along during her unexpected transformation.

“That’s better,” she said. “And being mortal isn’t that bad. It just takes me a little while to get used to it. Since it’s a spell, I shouldn’t have to worry about.. you know.” Death hoped that because the spell was magical in nature, it wouldn’t come with the same conditions that her mortality normally did.

She smiled down at the tiny chick cradled in Castiel’s hands and petted his small head. The penguin chirruped at her, flapping his little wings. “Hey cutie.”

“Have you come up with a name yet?”
