just read the following on a British forum used by a lot of Americans
"Like many Americans, I have never been out side the U.S. except for trips to Canada and the occasional Mexican Resort.
The Canadians are unfailingly polite and non-confrontational, and the Mexican Resorts limit contact with locals.
When I was a kid they used to say: "Never leave the U.S! There's nothing they have THERE that we don't have a better, safer version of here!"
What, if any, benefits are there, particularly for gay men, in traveling the world?"
I bit my tounge but had to reply...
"you really need to ask? how about getting a wider view on life than one country can give you, seeing how others live?
better yet, if you got to ask the question maybe you should stay in your safer version and not be troubled by the rest of the world"
This is just one example of the narrow minded view I keep coming across when talking to American guys online, they just can see that there are other world views out there.
One guy called me a communist because I said I read The Guardian. Which he considered a Communist rag! When I pointed out that it was more middle of the road and if I wanted to read a Communist paper we have those too he went mental at me.
Now I know it's a sweeping statement and a lot of Americans are very open minded, its just I only seem to end up talking to the ones that have their heads stuck up their arses.
Just once I would like to chat to someone from the states who does not think that its the centre of the universe or thinks its funny that there religous right has so much influance that churches can get away with saying that diabities can be cured by casting out personal demons.
Am leaving this post open to the world if there are any sane American please comment I would love to hear from you!
