As Jack slung an arm around Toshiko so forcefully that both of them nearly fell to the ground, Ianto reached into his pocket for his phone and dialed.
"Hi Ianto," said the voice on the other end of the line. She sounded cheerful, and Ianto smiled.
"Are you busy?" he asked, but he knew that his tone would catch her attention. Even if she were busy, she wouldn't be able to resist knowing why he'd called.
"Nope." He could hear voices in the background, loud and then successively quieter. Then, it was just her, and he assumed she was alone. "I have a meeting in an hour, but if you can get me out of it, I'll buy you lunch."
"Tell them you need to come to Wales," he said, and he held back a laugh as Jack shouted his love to Owen, "and I'll buy you lunch."
"Deal." She chuckled. "Who's shouting?"
"Jack."
"Ianto!" Jack all but bellowed. He'd obviously heard his name. Honestly, he was as bad as a child sometimes. "Come here so I can kiss you, and I'll kiss you."
"He wants to kiss me," Ianto told Martha, as Jack blew a kiss to Gwen to demonstrate. "Gwen too, if you were wondering."
"Not happening, Harkness," Gwen said from her workstation. She was trying her to best to get some work done, but she couldn't stop glancing back at him, her pen between her teeth.
"That's nothing new," Martha replied. A joke, but with a touch of thoughtfulness in her tone. A touch of curiosity. "Am I missing a party?"
"Of one."
Jack put his head on Tosh's shoulder. It looked rather uncomfortable, and Ianto stretched his own neck unconsciously.
"But I can tell you that Jack loves all of us, you, your entire family, and the Doctor. And Jammie Dodgers. He was very specific about the Jammie Dodgers."
Martha--well, he was pretty certain that sound was a giggle.
"He was bitten," he explained, and he had to pause in order to truly appreciate the expression of childlike joy on Jack's face as he reminded Toshiko that she was brilliant. "Intoxicating saliva. Evolution is a beautiful thing."
Another giggle. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
"Aren't you?" he countered. "Owen thinks we should sedate him."
"So he'll stop embarrassing himself?"
Ianto snorted. "So he'll stop hugging Owen, more like. Jack's very fond of him, you know, Martha."
"Most melancholy, most musical bird," Jack sang, the tune uneven and the last syllable slurred. Despite that, he grinned, extraordinarily pleased with himself. "Martha Jones. Do you know she saved the world?"
"And you," Ianto added.
"I'm honored." Martha snickered, and Ianto could tell she was already planning how best to tease Jack about this later. "Ianto, please tell me you're recording this."
"Oh, you are wicked."
"I haven't a clue what you mean," she retorted, very professionally. "Ianto."
He hit a button on his laptop.
"Check your email."
A moment of silence, and then she said, "I love you."
Ianto leaned back in his chair and allowed himself a smirk. "Everybody does, today."
