This weekend we had a bunch of friends from our lanparty club over for BBQ, beer and langaming.
So friday and thursday my favorite female cohabitant (Tia) and me cleaned, straightened out and generally neatened the apartment in preparation for a bunch of guys with beer and computers coming over.
We had a lot of fun with them, flew the toyplane outside, did lots of BBQ in the garden and later upstairs (used the electro grill to heat up the grilled meat from the late afternoon), played a bunch of games and also watched some fun movies on TV late at night while playing. Of course we had a ton of beer too, my mini-keg on tab thingie in the kitchen was overall approved of.
This morning after a rather short night, the guys helped clean up, we played some CS (first time in two years that i played that. Or is three??) we had breakfast, I did dishes, neatened everything, kicked them out and mopped the whole place. It looks quite nice and sparkly clean. :) I'm pretty tired, but damn - this was fun.
Buns feel good thingie: I fixed one of my two old TwinX toyplanes, the batteries in it got overcharged when I had to get surgery done lately. So I got new batteries and soldered them in the first one. The glueing together could have been done bette,r but - it works. Just tried it outside. These things are so much fun! :)))
However, there were some downsides:
First one friend managed to get the new plane I ordered recently stuck in a tree and while recovering it, it fell in the creek and the electronics in it died. Fuck. Well, it was just 20 bucks, so he paid me off and i oredered a new one already tonight. A bit unfortunate, cause everone had a big blast with it until that happened. :/
So, now that the repaired one works, one more I can fix and the newly ordered one from tonight, I now have three planes. Excess. :))
Second - our computers still act up. I reinstalled my PC from scratch since Memtest did not reveal any issues with the RAM, and everything seemed fine. Until this morning. When done playing CS, we switched back to generals - and Boom. Crash. Hard freeze again with no indication on what causes it. Three times in a row. And weird enough - it did not crash at all last night, when we played two rounds of Generals, tons of BF2, Company of heroes and other games It also did not crash Generals since I reinstalled last week. Until today. This is fucked up.
So tomorrow I'll try out some RAM sticks from a different machine and see if this fixes things. If not, I'm pretty sure it is the mainboard. I'm already prepared to go out on wednesday after work and get me a new board.
Any recommendations in the sub-100$ area? I thought about a i965 based board, maybe a Foxconn one, since they do the OEM boards for Intel brand mainboards. I actually need one PCIe connector, Gigabit-LAN, onboard-Sound, 2 SATA connectors and.. um.... Yes, thats actually it. Vcore adjusting would be nice for the CPU, but besides that...
