Kept

As I was passing by the long gas lines at the local Cypress, CA CostCo my phone started to ring. It was my boss. Calling me on my lunch break? It must be important.

"Hello?"
"Are you on your lunch?"
"Yep."
"Come back ASAP."
"Ohhhkay."

I really had no idea what the hell that was about. I stopped to get a sandwich at SubMarina (great fresh stuff there) and made my way back.

As soon as I walked to my desk my boss comes around the corner and tells me that it will "only take a minute." hmmm.

As we walk to the small meeting room I notice that my other co-worker is coming too. This informed me that I myself was not in trouble or anything like that.

"Emergency meeting."

As we get into the meeting room, all three of us standing up...no time to sit, my boss starts off with..."there are going to be lay offs today".

He goes on to explain that 70 people in underwriting will be laid off. This is across the country. If it was 70 people in my dep't alone, we'd owe them about 35 people more than we have (had?).

Also explained is the fact that Labor & Trust Underwriters (which I am) won't be getting laid off. Phew. I'm fine then.

So now I'm sitting here waiting...there is a dep't wide meeting in about 35 minutes. The VP is going to explain what happened and I guess I'll see who else shows up. Those who don't...sad to see them go.

USA! USA! USA! USA!
