...here we go.
In the end it was events at the bottom of the table that proved to be more exciting than those at the top.
Up at the top Man Utd got a 2-0 win at Wigan (though Wigan can count themselves unlucky that a couple of very good penalty shouts for Ferdinand handballs did not go their way), whilst Chelsea drew 1-1 at home to Bolton and...wait fot it...the goal was scored by Andriy Shevchenko!!!! Yes, you read that right, he (a)played (second half sub) and (b)actually scored! Not sure if that will change anything about what happens to him in the closed season, guess we'll have to wait and see.
Bad news for the Blues was a semi-dislocation of his elbow for John Terry - to soon to say if that will keep him out of next week's Champions League final.
Down at the bottom, Birmingham won 4-1 but it wasn't enough to save them from the drop. And Reading finally scored (having gone over 9 hours without a goal!) at Derby and won 3-0, but again this wasn't enough to save them from the drop as Fulham (who were in the bottom three at Xmas), pulled off their great escape by winning at Portsmouth courtesy of a Danny Murphy goal. So it's Derby, Birmingham City and Reading who've dropped out of the Premier League.
In other news, Everton secured 5th spot and its UEFA Cup place, Liverpool won 2-0 at Spurs (notable for Fernando Torres getting another goal and becoming the most successful overseas debutant goalscorer). Sven Goran Eriksson's possible last game in charge of Manchester City ended VERY badly, with his side being thumped 8-1! at the Riverside - Middlesborough DEFINTELY having an end of term feeling!
So it's a 17th league title (top league that is) for Man Utd - see apart from the fact it's been too bloody long anyway since Liverpool won the title, the other reason they HAVE to win it again is that this one puts United just ONE behind Liverpool's record of 18 league titles!!
And now it's all eyes on the various play-off games, next Saturday's FA Cup Final and the Champions League final in Moscow (hmmm guess I have to cheer for Chelsea seen as I loath Utd and the idea of them doing a double makes me want to hurl at the very least!)
And then....it's all set for Euro 2008, which we can watch without having to be bothered by the usual crap surrounding an England team!
