I went for a walk with my camera, and I saw Alida sitting on her front porch with her neice. I've been wanting to see her for about 3 years, but just haven't. Up until now, I haven't had any idea what was going on with her. She was reading, her hair was longer and put up in a twisted knot, smoking a ciggarette, and was wearing blue, just like any other time I've seen her. She was heavier and taller than I remember.
"Hi", she said.
I said "Hi" and sat down next to her, without thinking about anything at all.
We looked at eachother for a while before either of us said anything.
She told me about how she stopped going to woodrow because of the drama program and the crappy administration there, and about how she hadn't decided whether to go to skyline or booker t. next year, as a sophomore. About how old Annika (her neice. witnessed her birth) was turning, and how her older sister was moving in with them again.
I really wanted to tell her that I missed her, and didn't know why we stopped talking. I wanted to invite her over (we only live 4 houses apart) to see the attic and the absense of any living facilities. But I didn't.
We're strangers again, and I think she wants to keep it that way. Maybe I do too.
