The monsignor update first. We met Sunday night and he was mostly focussed on Wee Hob's past crimes (about which I got more info) and need for supervision. Since I totally agreed with the need for supervision before, and have in fact been making that happen, it was rather anticlimactic to hear that what I've been doing is now okay with him. Wee Hob now is allowed to sit right behind Anawim where we all can keep an eye on him, and he has to have adult supervision whenever he's standing up in the building. Which he has-- um-- been doing. But whatever.
The Good Monsignor did admit feeling that Wee Hob should not have been confirmed under the circumstances, but he didn't want to make things harder on me or have to cause a scandal or have to answer questions from Sister B about why he felt that way. Seems to me pretty symptomatic Churchman behavior these days, and explains a lot about how they have other more serious misbehavior coming to light in their ranks. You don't get rid of bad stuff by being too uncomfortable to talk about it.
As to other matters like forgiveness and being more friendly-- didn't really come up. When I tried to direct it that way all I got was kind of a blankish look and once again his admission that he had never been in this type of situation and didn't know how to respond. He did wish that boy has "some kind of epiphany" but he didn't really "get" that maybe he should be doing something besides wish. Like, oh, say, Pray?
But the short version is, I'm not kicked out officially. I'm going to send a follow up this week now that I've had a chance to talk to Wee Hob and ask the man to at least set some kind of tasks Wee Hob can do to make some of this right. But if he can't or won't, I will make him do some kind of community service hours, enough to equal the monetary figure I finally have heard for the damage he did accidentally stepping on some organ pipes in an unused loft and deliberately bending one into a knot. Apparently lead pipes are quite soft. Insurance paid most of it, but I think $9000 is a good amount for him to earn in good behavior. I may let good school and homework behavior count for some of the hours. But if the Good Monsignor wants us both digging in the garden or something, that's fine too.
But the main news is-- Nano has started, and Wee Hob got 642 words in the first two days. I have a few more, but honestly, so far, his are a Lot better. But I have managed to hit my 10 minutes each day for
wrisomifu and my 100 words for
mini_nanowrimo. So, I'm proud of that. I've also kept plugging away at my non-starter of a ghost story instead of cheating and going to a WIP that doesn't suck as badly. Don't know how much longer I can stand that, though.
And-- I voted today. So did Wee Hob. I'm off in a minute to go home, await my Beloved, and watch returns together (maybe both of us writing on stuff to pass the time, too.) Good night to all.
