Just a quick thanks

...for all the kind wishes and positive energy an all. I talked to my attorney this morning, who was delighted to hear I am in no worse trouble than this, given some of our past legal challenges. He said that foreclosure will pretty much kill the lease, leaving me with no legal rights to remain on the property. Someone's buying the property would at least give me a right to stay until the lease expires, and then that person would decide whether or not to let me renew it. But all in all, I'm probably, as a practical matter, going to get at least 4 months rent free housing while I look for another place, in the best time of year for finding something else, and a lot of leeway about when I move out.

He agreed that it was uncommonly decent of the landlord to give me the heads up like this, and that I should probably just write him a letter confirming our conversation and telling him I'll be keeping the rent in savings and available should something come through for him and we want to reinstate the lease. That should protect me adequately.

I also looked up the property on the County Assessor's website and found that he is asking about $14,000 more than its assessed value, and $75,000 more than he paid for it a year or two ago. Which may be why the place isn't selling so fast. don't have the funds to become a slumlord myself (and this neighborhood is not a slum at all) but I know some people who might want to snatch up this place, before or after the foreclosure, for the right price. So maybe something will work out. Certainly Something will. It's just scary not knowing exactly what that something will be....

In any event, I think I shall attempt this pleasurable activity known as "sleep" now. I've heard it's fun....

Good night, all.
