Fandoms

Fandoms, I love them and hate them in equal measure. I love them because they allow me to express my love of particular shows, I can be nerdy with other like minded nerdy people and talk about every little detail of something that I am obsessed over. On the other hand, they are whiny. They never seem to be happy with what they get. They always focus on the negatives and never see that there is a wonderful show/storyline with compelling characters and amazing storylines.

They complain about every little thing. Such and such a character doesn't get enough screentime, they don't like the direction the plot is going etc etc. Then there's the spoilers. They tear them apart with their negativity, nothing good is going to come out of the spoilers, they just seem to point to the ultimate destruction of the characters. You read a spoiler about one thing and suddenly that means that your favourite character is being pushed out.

Why don't people focus on the positives once in a while? Just be grateful that you have these wonderful shows/characters to watch and enjoy. They should be making you happy, give you pleasure in seeing them on screen every day/week not making you want to complain about every single thing. You may think that makes you a better fan but it doesn't, it just brings down the mood of everyone else until it becomes so relentlessly gloomy on the forum that people leave because they don't want to be brought down too. It's okay to have some gripes about something you love but if it gets to the point where you are unhappy about things more than you are happy it may be time to think about walking away and finding something new to be obsessed over.

Why can't we just enjoy something for what it is? Let's focus on the positives here, at least we all have this one thing in common that we can talk about and enjoy. At least we have these things in the first place. They could end at any time so stop complaining and start enjoying.
