Once again I am suffering from organised failure. I’ve been planning a specific knitting project for while I am away at my parent’s. It's a gorgeous wee jacket/outdoor cardigan for my daughter. I bought the pattern book, which involved intercontinental shopping. I bought the yarn, which entailed a lot of research to make sure it was pattern compatible. I’ve been really looking forward to starting this particular project, and deliberately keeping it for the holidays. Just checked my interchangeable needle set only to discover I don’t actually have the size of tip I need! Now I have to work out whether I can either buy a set of tips when I get to my parent's (not sure if the LYS down there has Knitpro Symphonies or not) or if I have to buy a plasticky needle that I'm unlikely to like using. Such decisions one has to make in life.
And last night I had complete knitting failure. Well, more like "inability to read a pattern and follow it correctly" failure. I have been knitting hard on my mother's cardigan that I began over a year ago, in the hops of surprising her with it on arrival. Last night, after being within spitting distance of finishing the first sleeve, I realised I hadn't read the pattern properly and had done the sleeve completely wrong. Explained why I kept looking at it funny and waiting for it to magically become "right"! So after faffing a little with an afterthought lifeline (for the first time ever) I ripped back the entire sleeve. I felt like crying! However, I only have two sleeves to knit, this is doable, albeit probably not before I get to my parents. And since my mother has been waiting since October 2009, what's a few more weeks?
Finally, I have picked out a cute pattern for my skein of gorgeous Manos yarn. Tis a scarf/shawl knitted from the bottom edge up, utilising shorts rows to shape it. The bottome edge is really lacy and pretty and I have high hopes the yarn will be shown to every advantage going. And I *do* have the correct size tips for it!!
