I've just had a great night out. We went to see
Dreamboats and Petticoats at the Playhouse Theatre in Northumberland Avenue. It was two hours twenty minutes of solid singing - all the old hits from 1961, with dialogue written by Lawrence Marks and Maurice Gran (they wrote Birds of a Feather). It was a reasonably lightweight plot - young boy fancies the sassy popular good time girl, she fancies the older rocker, and the boy's best friend's younger sister fancies him... It is the story of a songwriting contest and a trip to Southend, but furnished by songs of the time (all performed live on stage - both songs and instruments) by a talented group of young actors.
At the end, for the finale, the audience were all encouraged to get up and dance a bit and plenty of people did just that. It was a real feel good night - just the thing if you are feeling a bit blue. I thoroughly recommend anyone to go and see the show.
