I GOT A DIRECTING SLOT!!!!!!
I'm so glad I finally know...and man was it a lot more competitive than I thought it was going to be!! I still don't know what show or when...but I should find that out by the end of this week. It's between John & Jen or The Altruists...that much I know...but YAY!! So that makes me really happy.
Today was a marathon of a day...ugh...It started off this morning at 9...and I had classes straight through until 2. Then I came home real quick, changed, and went and worked with the College Mentors for Kids Program! I sat on a guest panel and talked to 1st-4th graders about what it's like to study acting in college and then I took the 3rd graders on a scavenger hunt around campus. I love kids...I really do...they asked some really great questions...they wanted to know if I ever thought about quitting school, why did I choose ball state, have i ever been in a movie...lol...it was fun! It's a great program for kids and all the college voulenteers were great working with them. They call each other big buddy and little buddy!
So that lasted from 3-5...then I had an Alpha Psi board meeting and then I took a theatre mangement exam at 6...then I went to go shoot a film from 6:30-9:30...and lemme tell you about this film experience.
So 1) this was my first film venture. 2) I can say that it has its pros and cons. The pros are that you don't neccessarily have to memorize your lines...BUT its harder to act because i'm used to being bigger on stage, going in sequence, and not having to worry about things like cheating out to a machine. I also didn't get the same gratification from acting as I do when I do it live...it's like you film it and you move on-you never get to do it again for a live audience and get that instant energy feed. So I dunno...Desiree (the director) said she loved me on camera (yes-i'm being a narccissitic lil prick right now!!) and next year she's filming 5 movies and she said she wants me in some...so yay!! Resume lines!! That's all I'm saying...I mean I dont' think film is something I'm going to go after in New York per se...but I wouldn't turn down an audition, you know? But I can see why most actors prefer theatre over film.
We had a 4 year old in the film too and it was so much fun to work with her because she was just a rambling ball of energy. She was such a diva, too and kept indulging her lines. It gave me a lot to work with and I love working with Ross Compton...he played my chinese brother in Millie and we have great comedic energy together and Desiree allowed us to ab lib on our lines and we got some great comedy moments...it was just fun.
So now I'm tired and back at the apartment. I have a paper to write, but that can wait...I think I might actually be able to get to bed before 1am tonight!! That'll be a nice change...
7 more school days left until finals week!! I'm really looking forward to the summer...there are some really great people staying here and it's just going to be nice to hang out on my porch, drink some margaritas, and cook some hamburgers...yay! I'm glad it's starting to finally warm up! :) Cheers, Mates!
