St. Patrick's Day

It's hard to believe that one year ago I was celebrating St. Patrick's Day in Galway, Ireland...this year? Muncie, Indiana.

I remember how the day before St. Patrick's Day Lindsey, April, and I walked down the cobbled streets of Galway ducking in and out of Irish Jewelery stores (Galway is home of the famed Claddagh Ring)...and at one such jewelery store they saw us peaking into the window and, although they were closed, they invited us in to sample some cake and give us a newspaper of the weekend's events.

The next day we got up early (I think it was around 8am), thinking that we didn't want to miss any of the festivities, and NO ONE was out. Everything was closed! St. Patrick's Day is basically celebrated like our 4th of July. To kill time the three of us had a traditional Irish breakfast in a little restaurant that was above a store. Around 10am the drinking began outside and when we came out of the restaurant everyone was lined up drinking and waiting for the parade...so we shoved and pushed our way to the front and watched a brilliant Irish parade complete with face painting clowns and ten-feet tall puppets.

Afterwards we wandered up and down in and out of pubs until we landed at The Hog's Head, thinking it was another pub, but it ended up being a 3-level club...
The rest of my memory of St. Patrick's Day is kind of a blur...I remember talking to some guy named Seth about how he liked American women (like I cared...) and another guy about where to go besides the Hog's Head and how so many tourists descend on Ireland during St. Patrick's Day. I remember leaving the club (er...or pub?) and stumbling up the street to McDonald's where April flirted with some random guys who called her Axel Rose, which got her mad...

It was fun. It was random. It was honestly a once in a lifetime adventure. And it's something I will never forget....I love being Irish. I love this holiday!
