I should write at least a little about this concert before I forget and it lapses into nothing, heh. Anyway, I went with
aliste and
rosamundeb tonight to see Common Rotation play at the Beat Kitchen. They were the second opening band to some singer songwriter (we didn't stick around for him, though), once again making us ponder if this only happens in Chicago or everywhere: after CoRo is done, the venue clears considerably, leaving far fewer people for the "main act." And if it happens everywhere, why aren't they headlining their own shows?
In any case, the show was good. They played a few new-ish songs, or at least ones I hadn't heard, but that isn't necessarily saying much because I don't keep up with the Union Maid. Speaking of the Union Maid, Adam gave a shoutout to They Might Be Giants, explaining that they copied Dial-A-Song (but they copied it first!). This was brought on by
rosamundeb's TMBG t-shirt, which Adam noticed. I was disappointed that it seems that they aren't playing songs from their first album anymore; I really like some of the songs on that album, plus they're more uptempo. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the show. Good work, boys, on increasing your number of kinds of different instruments per capita on stage; Adam busted out an alto sax for one song. In another Eric didn't play for a verse or so, and we got to see what it would be like if he wasn't playing the guitar all the time (hint: hilarious).
It was nice to get to a concert once again, I hadn't been to any in a while. There's been a dearth of good concerts lately. C'mon, I need some more good ones to see in Chicago before I leave!
