I'm a one-hit girl

I'm going to write this up before I put it off and never do it, a la the Doughty show a couple weeks ago. It'll be short.

Tonight aliste, rosamundeb and I saw Common Rotation once again at Uncommon Ground. I had talked to my friend Josh about the concert on our way back from SVP a couple days ago, and he was interested so he decided to come too. This was good not only because he enjoyed himself and now likes the band a lot, but also because cptmoll, who was supposed to come, got caught up at work and ended up missing the show, so he filled out our 4-person reservation.

When we got there they tried to stick us back in the table where we first saw them there, pretty much behind the stage area. There was another equivalent table nearby in a better spot, though, and they let us move the reservation plaques and switch tables, which was nice. This time I gave in and just had dinner there to meet our $15/person minimum, as did the others. aliste and I also indulged in the spicy drinking chocolate (different from cocoa, mind you), and Josh tried out the pumpkin-pie-tini, which was interesting to say the least, but not unpleasant. Josh also informed us that the best drinking chocolate in the world is to be had in Madagascar, so keep that in mind if you're ever there.

Anyway, the first act, Jason Quicksall came on. He looked about 18 years old, but he had a good sound and nice songs. He played a pretty full set, and the turn-around was quick as usual. Common Rotation was mystifyingly not the final act of the night, so they came on next. I actually don't have a ton to say about their set; they played a really great show. It was very 'together' and seemed more polished than other times we've seen them. They played almost exclusively songs from the new album, but even though I didn't have it yet, I had heard most of them as they'd been playing them at the previous shows I'd seen. They opened with the same song they closed with last time, a cover of Billy Bragg's Help Save the Youth of America.

And their set was way too short, since they were only the middle band. After they ended, the quite full room nearly emptied of people, which was kind of sad for the third band, but what are you going to do. We wanted our CoRo merch (got the new CD finally). Maybe they'll realize that CoRo should always be the headliner. :) But it was better for me anyway, because I have to go to work tomorrow. Speaking of which, I should be off to bed...
