Exam plot bunnies a-go-go

Yes, they're here again. I'm totally going to have to write another full-length novel this summer. Sigh. First year it was the Apocalypse, last year it was vampires, this year it looks like it's going to be demons. Plot is already half-done in my head, I love all the characters, their pasts and relationships will probably finish off the plot pretty ( Read more... )

Yay strong women!

I have the exact same thing. Am writing a story now as well (yay vampires) and my MC is THE most ordinary girl who starts to hang out with all kinds of supernatural creatures. I want her to be kickass, but she's also very scared and easily angry (the vamps don't always treat her with respect and she has no speshul powahhhs) and I do want her to get hurt, although I don't want to inflict Sookie Stackhouse syndrom on her (I love Sookie, but she gets beat up like five times a book).

I especially love when they have a vulnerable woman who's strong as well. Like Veronica Mars. People see her as really tough, but like she said, she was a marshmallow who just knew when to toughen up when needed.
Or Morgana in Merlin (although I really want to see her go batshit crazy).

ALSO MARTHA AND ROBIN FTMWF. I mean, Donna is my fav companion (Rose can go die in a hole) and also really really badass and a strong woman, but Martha is made of win if only for that moment where she laughed in the fucking Master's face.
And Robin is pretty much the most awesome female character ever.

Barney Stinson approves of your list and adds to it that he would like to hit every one of that

TESTIFY. Donna would have been all mouthy, Rose would have wibbled or shot time vortex at him, but Martha freaking LAUGHS. I just rewatched Human Nature/Family of Blood as well, and SO MUCH WIN.

Strong women who are really vulnerable as well are great. Like Kate - when she talks about her husband who died, and gets really sad, that's one of my favourite bits with her. And Martha with the gun in Gridlock, you can tell she's scared but she's not taking this lying down. And Robin's really vulnerable a lot of the time, but still deals with it way better than most people would. YAY.

Morgana in Merlin was considered :D But sadly I have never seen Veronica Mars.

I have... two main female characters in my upcoming story, and two side characters who are only in it briefly but need to kick a lot of ass in that time. There's going to be some conflict between the two lead girls, but I'm going to be putting a lot of effort into making sure it's understandable conflict, not just 'all girls must hate each other'. They'll be BFFs by the end.
