Simple meme - posting the first sentence/ paragraph of the first entry of every month.
January
Well, that's 2007 over and done with, and I think that was the single busiest year of my life. At midnight (shortly before the party popper war broke out) I thought back on it, and at first couldn't think of anything that had happened. But then I thought properly, and realised the reason nothing stuck out in my mind was because of the SHEER VOLUME OF STUFF.
Yeah, 2007 was a quite busy year. Kind of a sucky one at times, too. But fortunately, 2008 has been AWESOME. Biggest thing in January this year was probably the medieval Banquet I organised, with Jackie coming to visit Durham a close second. YAY JACKIE.
February
There are actually four entries for this day. One is a Sylinder post, one is a macro post, one is about a wart I had that I'd really rather not go into detail about again, and the 4th:
I HAVE AN AFTERNOON WITH NOTHING TO DO!!!
With a 'PS' added shortly afterwards saying I'd just been asked to write the adventure for TT that weekend. I guess those sum up my month pretty well - immersion in fandom, painful warts, and having free time being a) worth squeeing about in capital letters and b) a delusion.
March
Next Maelstrom (bunch of grown-ups playing dress-up in a field) I'm playing someone from their equivalent of Japan, and I have no idea what to wear.
Yeah, I got the skirt. That Maelstrom was the time it snowed and I wound up fleeing to where my parents were staying a few miles away. It had heating! And a hot shower! And I could walk without feeling the ground chilling my toes to numbness THROUGH THICK SOCKS!
Though biggest thing about March - Eclipse. No question. EEEEEEEEEEE.
April
There I was, all set to just buckle down and prepare for exams this summer. Sure, I only had five weeks, but I could manage it. As long as I just concentrated on that, and didn't procrastinate too much.
I then go on to confess I just signed up for Script Frenzy. I didn't keep that going for long. Nor did my optimism regarding the exams last much longer.
May
Pulling all-nighters eating chinese food and doing cross-stitch and watching the Dhoom films is apparently not a good move for me. I have a strange urge to drink so much alcohol my brain switches off and to go out and hit some clubs. I won't, of course. No, I'm going to go morris dance on a bridge instead.
Oh, May Day. An awesome way to kick off a month featuring exams, my 20th birthday and the 3YGB. Good times. Well, not the exams so much.
June
Holy shit! I just remembered that the deadline of the short story competition I wanted to enter is midnight tonight!
I tried to write it anyway. I managed it, but it was crap. I sent it off anyway. When my brain doesn't have any work to focus on, it does strange things.
July
My July NaNoWriMo is underway! Though, as
trinityblack pointed out, since it's only me, her and possibly Robbie taking part, it's hardly 'National'. So instead, I'm calling it MyNoWriMo.
AND I FINISHED IT AND I'M STILL EDITING IT AND IT COULD ACTUALLY BE GOOD. SUCCESS. Also this month, I went to Brownsea Island with my parents, and got stripy sunburn from sitting outside reading American Gods THAT HAS STILL NOT ENTIRELY GONE AWAY.
August
I've just got back from an SFX weekend in Leeds - I got far too excited about jelly, almost literally ROFLed at a napkin ghost, and had a train driver wave and blow a kiss at me WTF - and now, I am all set to recap the Hungarian Grand Prix with Claire and MattMatt.
Ah yes, my brief return to Durham in the middle of the holidays, where I got acquainted very quickly with pretty much all of Stargate SG-1. Also this month was Frankie's mum's wedding, my subsequent holiday to Greece with her family, and, most importantly, I GOT MY HAIR CUT AND IT WAS PRETTY.
September
I'm back from Greece! It was awesome. Temperature hovering in the low 30s, ancient sites, water parks, and a LOT of tomatoes.
Oh, my tomato addiction. At least it ended pretty quickly when I got back to England and realised the ones over here just aren't as nice. This month, I paused briefly on British soil to go see Hamlet starring David Tennant and Patrick Stewart, where Prince Charles was unexpectedly in the audience, before hopping on a plane again in the opposite direction and went to see JACKIE MY DARLING JACKIE IN PORTLAND YAY. I had the best summer EVER.
October
So this weekend I went to stay with the SFX people (for those who don't know, a bunch of people off an internet forum who I meet up with a few times a year for weekends of real-life interaction) at this place called Hargate Hall in the Peak District. We normally stay in hotels in Sheffield, but we decided to try something different, so we rented apartments in a huge country house, which was not only beautiful and practically empty but also HAD A BALL PIT.
Oh... oh dear. THAT weekend. The weekend of the drinking game. The weekend of too much gin. The weekend I will now move right along from and just say this month I went back to Durham to start my third year and all was well and there were no rather insensitive jokes about the Jews, none at all.
November
I won't do NaNoWriMo.
That's, like, the worst entry to have on November 1st EVER. But I just didn't have time this year. I was trying to be sensible. It also made me sad.
December
Housewarming down (and awesome), next up: Saturnalia ball!
Ah yes, my Week of Epic Social, which quickly stretched on to a Fortnight, which eventually expanded into OK So I'm Just Not Going To Get Any Sleep Between Now And Christmas.
That pretty much sums up my year. Terms were busy and vaguely stressful. The summer was awesome. There was fangirling throughout. YAY.
