Okay, so I need you to begin by reading the following lyrics--"Party In The USA" by Miley Cyrus...easily one of the biggest songs on the radio right now (Here, anyway...)
I hopped off the plane at LAX with a dream and my cardigan
Welcome to the land of fame excess, am I gonna fit in?
Jumped in the cab, here I am for the first time
Look to the right and I see the Hollywood sign
This is all so crazy, everybody seems so famous
My tummys turnin and I'm feelin kinda home sick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous,
That's when the taxi man turned on the radio
and a Jay Z song was on
and the Jay Z song was on
and the Jay Z song was on
So I put my hands up
They’re playing my song,
And the butterflies fly away
Noddin’ my head like yeah
Moving my hips like yeah,
And I got my hands up,
They’re playin my song
I know I'm gonna be ok
Yeah, It's a party in the USA
Yeah, It's a party in the USA
Get to the club in my taxi cab, everybody's lookin at me now
Like “whos that chick, thats rockin’ kicks? she gotta be from out of town”
So hard with my girls not around me its definitely not a Nashville party
Cause’ all I see are stilettos I guess I never got the memo
My tummys turnin and I'm feelin kinda home sick
Too much pressure and I'm nervous
That's when the D.J. dropped my favorite tune
and a Britney song was on
and the Britney song was on
and the Britney song was on
Feel like hoppin' on a flight
Back to my hometown tonight
Something stops me everytime
The DJ plays my song and I feel alright!
Got them read? Alright.
Now, my first complaint is as follows: She doesn't put nearly enough nasal tone in her singing of this song, particularly on the first verse. If she'd learn to sing properly and throw a little more "nose" into it, I think it'd sound better, and improve her career in the long run.
Secondly, re-read that first verse, second line. Worried about fitting in in Hollywood. Ouch. I know that's always been my worry. In fact, I think it's a worry that SO many people are going to resonate with, I think I'll write a song about it. And the second verse...Really? People are looking at you because you're wearing shoes rather than stilettos, and you're concerned? Because the shoes you're wearing definitely determine whether you fit in or not. Honestly, my LAST concern is whether or not someone fits in with the famous crowd in Hollywood. So maybe go tell someone who's actually going to be concerned about it, rather than throwing this stuff out on the airwaves and convincing young girls that fitting in with the popular crowd is what matters in the end.
Thirdly, you're thinking about flying back home, and the DJ plays a song you like, and that's what always convinces you to stay in Hollywood? "Oh, my favorite song is on the radio... I think I'll stick around now"... You DO realize those same songs play or the radio all across the country, right?
Anyway, just some thoughts. =P
