On Saturday I went out for a nice walk to explore and see secret places. I was going to walk down the train tracks, but thought of checking my tramp buddy Houndman's old place in the woods. There's still some foundation left, even 10 years later. I've been going to this area for a long time, and it's practically in the middle of the woods, but houses used to be there, but now it's just half-buried foundations, and trash they discarded over the years, like enamel cookware and glass bottles. I went to look for some interesting bottles, because there are piles of them in different places along the hillside. I didn't have my camera with me, but I took some pictures of my collection when I got home.
Set of bottles that I found I picked up bottles as I went, anything that was interesting, and intact. In the picture, the shot glass on the left has a half inch thick bottom, and the sides are thick too. The saucer is by Boonton, and made in New Jersey. It's dirty, but I'm in the process of bleaching it now, and it's in surprisingly good condition for being a kind of plastic, and being in the woods for years. That's the thing, only the strongest stuff has lasted, and that's what made it out of the woods with me today.
Next is the milk bottle, again thick glass, and from RIECK, the dairy, and very clean. The white jar was probably for some kind of face cream, and it says 'Woodbury' on the bottom, like everything else it's way heavy. The blue jar, Vick's Vaporub is printed on the bottom of it.
Look at how much the glassware distorts the wall surface behind it. That's something you don't notice with today's plastic bottles. My guess is that's because the plastic is not thick enough to bend the light going through it.
It was a cool walk (well hot actually), and I got pretty dirty looking for those bottles. I came back by the Kearns way, and the lower part of the street is still as cracked as ever, with water flowing down it.
I watched the local horror TV show It's Alive, still in re-runs for the summer, and it ran Brain Of Blood, a brain transplant movie from 1972. That's a B movie for sure, a lot like the ones from the 50s. They had Stiffy the Clown getting lost in the woods, and then after a while turning feral, walking on all fours, with a rubber chicken in his mouth, and growling, it was cool. In another segment, Fritz 1 went to chase a stick that was thrown, and he is kind of their resident puppy Dog on the show, not talking and always bouncing around. It makes me long to chase sticks like that at the park too.
Last weekend Ric was here, and we had a relaxing weekend with Dog chat, food, sleep, and being on line with our laptops on the porch. Two weeks ago I was at Ric's place to hang out the same way, going to a local fair with some rides and bands playing, going to a restaurant called Rooster's, and out for ice cream suddenly one night.
Just before the weekend at Ric's, Thursday the 9th was Swift Fox's Fur meet at Games n 'at. It's a classic arcade, but with several floor levels and more games added, like pool downstairs and Skee-Ball upstairs.
A few of the arcade games I just stayed with the old video games and the pinball, and had a fun time. My favorite game was Asteroids, which I play on the computer too. You have to watch that rocks floating in space don't hit your ship, and watch out for UFOs shooting at you. I got the high score, and I wanted to break 10000 but didn't make it, only to 8390.
My favorite - Asteroids All of the arcade games are set to free play, and there's a cover charge to get in, and you can play as much as you want. Since we were a group, we got the party room to use, but no Furs used it while I was there, everyone was on the games.
Party room Finally, something silly I found when looking through the pictures. This is Ric's brother's Dog Rusty. It looks like the top of his mouth is threaded to take a screw, and he is a real nut.. :)
