Monday 1-26 we all walked to McDonald's to get Hob a Happy Meal inside this time, hoping to get it in the box that looks like a bus like we had found on the street, and get the Shep Border Collie mini plush. That was a lot to ask, because all they had was a bag and no selection of the Dogs.. ;)
We walked over to the Buster video store across the street and looked at DVDs, finding that they have a newer Beethoven movie called Big Break, it seems like it's about how he got his start. Add that to the 5 movies in the Pooch Pack and that means there are 6 Beethoven films now. We saw a door in the back with no sign on it or anything, and no window and thought that must be where the adult films are kept.. :)
There was also a fortune cookie sitting on a shelf, and someone who came in for videos must have left it there. The Collie asked if she could have it, and the lady said yes. Hobnose ate it right outside of the store, and her fortune said, "A truly great person never puts away the simplicity of a child."
Tuesday Collie got the hard drive cable that she ordered. It's a SATA cable to connect the hard drive to the main board, and it's supposed to glow in ultraviolet light, but we haven't tested it yet. We are still waiting for the memory to come.
I went to the thrift store by myself today, no one wanted to walk there, the Collie was sleepy but wanted to check for computers, so I walked down but there were no machines at all. Winter is ruff on those Texas Dogs, I like to play in the snow, but we all stay in more right now.
At night Collie and me went to get a few things at Shop And Save, some hot doogs, meat, drinks and ice melter. Werevereen was going to come too and he got ready, but then one of his friends in Second Life came on.
Wednesday the trash was supposed to be picked up, but the roads are slippy so they delayed it until Thursday.
Hobnose's memory and heat sink grease finally came, so she could put her new computer together, excellent. The case is by Chenbro, stealth black, big and strong and server. With the memory in and everything connected, it's been working fine and fast with Super Ubuntu 8.10, I mean it looks really good.
So far, SU has been a great system, installing all hardware right off without going to the net for drivers at all. It got the sound going and the Engenius wi-fi card up, and that card is pretty new and I thought if there could be problems it might be there. We got the codec so that VLC player could play DVDs, and we have a happy Collie. That Firefox is right there on a quick launch button, that is going to please many folks and get them to like it right away.
On Saturday AJ Michaels came over with the computer from his fire department. They only had it for a little while when it got spyware, fake virus removal programs. The computer is a nice Compaq EVO system like I have and like, a business PC, but it came with no virus protection.
I put Windows Defender on and scanned with another program, and it took a few hours, but it seems like the system is okay now. As that was happening, we watched an episode of Hogan's Heroes and one of Emergency on my laptop, and just at the end, the screen froze and the hard drive crashed, for good. At least we got The fire hall's computer going, but now I'm looking for a new drive.
Sunday was the Super Bowl, and it was an exciting game, not just because the Steelers won either, it was just intense. Hobnose watched some but mostly listened to music she got and was testing computers. We got her down to the TV to see the last few minutes though, and then when our team won we sent up some fireworks outside.
Hob was bothered by the opinionated talk of her family about football and the Cowboys so she never wanted to watch it in Texas, but now she's here and it's more relaxed so she can be free to watch and enjoy. I like it that after Hob gets here, not only were the Steelers in the bowl game, but they won it and set a good example.. :)
We had a pizza as the game started, that was a nice treat.
