On Tuesday we went to the thrift store, because Werevereen wanted to get some clothes for his fursuit, and he also got a real army bag to carry it in. We only had like $7 at the time, so we got a few things and had to come back for the bag and a computer that Werevereen was interested in.
We came back and Boomer found what has to be the best computer deal ever. As we went in, there was a cart with lots of electronic stuff in it, and on top was a good looking Dell computer in it, a big case one with an XP label on it, so I thought it must be pretty new. It hadn't been set out yet, I thought it was going to be, but a lady said 'that's mine' I thought. I guessed that she was a buyer, but then realized it was a worker there.
We looked at toys and stuff, and then I went and checked the shelves and it was there for $12.99. I was grabbing it and a guy was leaning over and looking at it, and I wofed, 'Oh yeah, that's it..' This thing is mega for a thrift store, with 3.0 ghz speed, 2.5 gigs of memory, Nvidia graphics card, 160G sata hard drive, and a wi-fi card with an antenna installed! One problem is that the DVD wouldn't work, and the graphics card only had DVI jacks on it, so we had to buy an adapter to make it a VGA. Other than that, amazing, and it's for the Collie, something better than the e-Machines I had made up to get her started.
Later we went trashing around here, and saw so many branches from the wind storm still on the ground, and printer boxes and stuff, but they were full of branches to be taken away, so it was not the greatest night.
On Wednesday we played around our junk and tested out Hob's new computer and thought about the things we need to get it going. We tried out the new lawn mower that we had found on Clifford street in the trash, and it actually worked pretty well, and Hobnose was cutting grass in the front, while I cut in the back. That was a nice turn around, last year the Collie felt left out when Boomer went to cut the grass, thinking of not having much time on the visit, and nothing to do while I mowed. Later we went down to Bruce's place to do some weed trimming too.
Last night we wanted to take a road trip to the Allegheny river, and went through West End to the Corliss tunnel to Carson Street, heading for McKees Rocks. We never made it to the river, because we found a bunch of pro audio equipment out on a curb, and a guy said to just take it. We had to forget the river trip and turn around and get the car, which would take an hour. We did and picked up a Tascam DAT recorder, 2 Peavy amps, and a bunch of audio equalizers, all analog. We were hungry after the 7 mile bike trip and we went to Pizza Hut at 9:30, and no other eaters were there, it was strange, but good barking time.
Today we got a call from my mechanic's shop, and they had some old computer stuff for us, so Hobnose and Boomer went down right away. There were some early computers and monitors, and a 56K external modem, but the best thing in the pile is probably the black and white laser printer, it's newer and something I can really use if it's working.
The workers got to know Hobnose a little bit, they saw us walking and biking different places in the city, and I woofed that Hobnose is a Border Collie, that's a high energy breed, so we are on the move a lot. After that we went to Shop And Save for some food, and now the Collie is resting beside me on the bed.
