You know what I love about music?
It's always surprising.
I was just sitting on my bed,
sipping iced green tea and
loving the sunshine and
drawing in my notebook and
happy about the A on my US History Midterm Paper,
pissed about my (still) stuffy nose, and
happy I'm finally awake before noon
for the first time in a while.
And my iPod was on random.
"May Parade" by Guster came on.
My History with Guster (Abridged):
we found each other in 2000 when i was a young cub going into the eighth grade.
i listened to 'lost and gone forever' every night before going to bed.
we were in love for a while.
and then, like any relationship, we grew bored of each other.
i left them for pseudo-punk in the tenth grade.
we had a little fling in senior year
when I used a song from their new album
for my emmaus talk.
it didn't last long.
i had heard the songs so many times before.
and so...
when 'may parade' came on today,
in theory i would have skipped ahead.
i've heard that song, like,
nine-thousand times.
but i didn't. instead, i was immediately
transported through time,
to when i was a little more innocent
than i am now.
it made me smile.
it's really, really good
to find something that makes you smile.
so, your homework assignment for this week:
find the song you used to love.
fall in love again.
