So I woke up to see that i got a phone call from my mom last night after 11 so i knew that something was wrong. she called me at 715 this morning to tell me that 1.) my grandma is in the hospital with congestive heart failure and 2.) my sisters best friend died in a car accident last night.

Janelle was 16 years old, had never taken a drivers test, got into a fight with her step mom and took the car out. She picked up a friend on the way, Jacob, and they took off. They were going close to 100 on Reid road between Elms and Sharp when they lost control and ran into trees, wrapping the car around them. Jacob was thrown out of the window and Janelles neck broke, they were killed on impact at about 8pm. Her father who is also a SC police officer had to come identify her minutes after the crash.

My sister is losing it. She lost. Her friend just died and she woke up last night around 1030 to a phone call saying that her friends didnt make it. Janelle was a good girl, she was funny and different. God is watching over her and jacob know as Janelle is watching over the people she loves. I know that shes giving Katie the strength to get through this.

Two Swartz Creek students dead in Mundy Township crash

MUNDY TWP. --Two Swartz Creek High School teenagers died Wednesday night when their car left the road, rolled in a ditch and hit a stand of trees on Reid Road.

Swartz Creek High School officials confirmed this morning that junior Jacob Dinnan and sophomore Janelle Neering, both 16, were killed in the 8 p.m. crash.

The single-vehicle crash, between Sharp and Elms roads, killed both instantly, state troopers said.

State police said in a statement that the driver and her passenger were killed instantly in the crash. Their names were not being released by police this morning.

A neighbor said the crash in the residential neighborhood sounded like "a bomb had exploded."

"It's every parent's nightmare," Superintendent Jeff Pratt said this morning. "People try to make sense out of senseless tragedy and you just can't. It'll be a long day at the high school, that's for sure. We've put all our crisis strategies into effect and will deal with each kid as we have to."

The two friends lived on the same street in a Mundy Township subdivision within about a mile from the crash site.

Pratt said Janelle was interested in the health care field and volunteered at a local senior center. He said Jacob's student profile indicated an interest in business and marketing.

Friends of the pair gathered through the night at various homes as word spread around the school district.

"It was pretty sad last night. Jacob was one of my best friends," said Dan Doty, 18, of Swartz Creek, who described him as "a really funny kid who could crack me up" and "one of the best skateboarders in the Creek."

Police and firefighters were quickly on the scene, with the mile-long section of road blocked for several hours.

Trooper David Stokes said that high speed and driver inexperience were contributing factors in the crash, and that alcohol and drugs weren't considered factors. Both teens had been wearing seatbelts.
