That's right, you read correctly! It's been a couple of months in the making but it's done, the second airing of the famous Ron and Luna Show. *crickets chirp* OK, so maybe not "famous", but something I do anyway. The point of this show is partly to show how Red Moon isn't as weak a ship as some presume, and to kill some of the misconceptions about the ship.
And even if Ron/Luna will never be canon, I see no reason to stop this. Do you wanna know why? Then this episode may enlighten you.
The Ron and Luna Show.
*By the computer on the stage sits a lonely figure wearing a hooded cloak. It's completely dark in the studio with
the exception of some candles spreading a dim light around the figure beside the computer. There is a solemn
feeling in the atmosphere.*
Figure in cloak: My dear audience, it is my great and deepest sorrow to inform you all that our beloved
show will no longer run. After having received confirmation from the author herself that Ron will end up with
Hermione by the end of book seven in the Harry Potter series, there is simply no longer any reason to ...
LOUD VOICE: STOP THAT RIGHT NOW!
*The lights are turned on again, and Shantari is seen by the light switch. With decisive steps she walks up to
the hooded figure.*
Shantari: What do you think that you are doing, Announcer?
*The saddened figure takes off his cloak and reveals himself as the Announcer.*
Announcer: But I thought ... I mean, are we still going to ...
Shantari: You're damn straight that we're still going on with the show. If anything to keep up with the old
cliché of "The show must go on." and other such things. But mostly, because we're not sunk yet.
Announcer: We're not? But I thought JK Rowling herself said ...
Shantari: JK may say whatever she wants, but we know what we read in the books, and we know what Ron and
Luna means to each other. This Show takes place in a fanon-verse anyway, due to the fact that otherwise I couldn't
possibly be in the same world as characters from the Potterverse.
Announcer: Wh-wha...?
Shantari: Just announce our stars, so we can start with today's topic.
Announcer: But what is today's topic?
Shantari: The interview. It was the only thing to actually seperate Ron and Luna from each other.
*Announcer leaves the stage to grab his special announcement microphone.*
Announcer: Laaaadies and gentlemen in the audience! I give you Ron and Luna Lovegood Weeeasley!
*Ron and Luna enters the stage, looking ever as much in love as before, holding hands all the way until they
shake hands with Shantari. Once seated in the sofa they're hugging each other as normally.*
Shantari: So, how are you both today?
Ron: Oh, we're fine.
Luna: We were running a bit late though, one of the kids needed help in catching a Gulping Plimpie.
Shantari: That's alright, we had some delays here too. Now, first order of business. Since there are some
things we need to discuss in this episode that entails matters outside of the Potterverse, or Wizarding World as
it's also known as, we have a special guest on the show. Lets give a hand for Moonstruck!
*Moonstruck comes in, shakes hands with Ron, Luna and Shantari before getting seated into a rather large armchair
on the other side of Shantari's desk.*
Shantari: May we offer you something to drink?
Moonstruck: Hot choco, please. If you have some.
*Shantari waves her hand around, muttering a spell, conjuring up a steaming cup of hot choco on the little coffee
table in front of Moonstruck. Moonstruck eyes Shantari suspiciously.*
Shantari: What? We are in a fanon-verse after all.
*Moonstruck simply bursts out laughing in response.*
Shantari: So, to begin with we'll be discussing the latest book from a Ron/Luna-perspective. Even though
there were not many scenes of Ron and Luna interacting with each other, there is one that gives us all some
hope. Roll the tape please.
*A giant screen comes down from the ceiling in the background, and starts playing up a scene from the HBP-book
as though it were a movie.*
#"Nice commentary last match!" said Ron to Luna, as she took back the green onion, the toadstool and the cat litter.
Luna smiled vaguely.
"You're making fun of me, aren't you?" she said. "Everyone said I was dreadful."
"No, I'm serious!" said Ron earnestly. "I can't remember enjoying commentary more! What is this, by the way?" he
added, holding the onionlike object up to eye-level.
"Oh, it's a Gurdyroot," she said, stuffing the cat litter and he toadstool back into her bag. "You can keep it
if you like, I've got a few of them. They're really excellent for warding off Gulping Plimpies."
And she walked away, leaving Ron chortling, still clutching the Gurdyroot.
"You know, she's grown on me, Luna," he said, as they set off again for the Great Hall. "I know she's insane,
but it's in a good -"
He stopped talking very suddenly. Lavender Brown was standing at the foot of the marble staircase looking thunderous.
"Hi," said Ron nervously.#
*The movie stops rolling and the screen goes up again. Ron is blushing somewhat, while Luna looks simply content.
Shantari and Moonstruck are trying their hardest not to simply break out in shippy squeeing.*
Shantari: Ahem, well what we can see here are a number of counter agurments against Ron/Luna being defuted.
*Shantari stands up and pulls up a mobile White Board from behind the scene. There are a number of sentences
written on the board next to corresponding numbers.*
Shantari: Number one: "Though Luna may like Ron, there is no reason to believe that he would ever like her
back." Now this is a very common arguement used against Ron/Luna, but as we saw here in this segment, he does
seem interested in her and he also admitted that she is growing on him. It is in development, people!
*Audience cheers wildly, some waving a long banderoll saying "Ron and Luna 4ever, baby!", others simply waving
their signs depicting a red halfmoon on a white background.*
Shantari: Now arguement number two: "Luna is too crazy for Ron. If Neville can't handle her insanity,
what makes you think Ron can?" This has always been an annoying arguement for me personally, as I know a person
has to be a bit insane, and that most of the nicest people are certifiably insane.
*Without Shantari noticing it, Moonstruck points to her while nodding knowingly.*
Shantari: Anyway, this is disproven by Ron's statement: "I know she's insane, but it's in a good -"...
Ron, can we assume that you were about to say "in a good way"?
Ron: Yes, you may. I can't see what else I could possibly be on the way to say here.
Shantari: Thank you. I thought so as well. There is also a third arguement against Ron/Luna that is less
common, but still used to a greater extent. But to look at that we will have to pull up a different scene from
book 6, this time one that has Luna talking to Harry about Ron.
*The screen comes down again, displaying a different scene with Harry and Luna.*
#"He[Ron] says very funny things sometimes, doesn't he?" said Luna, as they set off down the corridor together.
"But he can be a bit unkind. I noticed that last year."
"I s'pose," said Harry. Luna was demonstrating her usual knack of speaking uncomfortable truths; he had never
met anyone quite like her.#
Shantari: Now, you are of course wondering what arguement this disproves? Well, since Luna supported
Ron last year with a lion hat on her head, and through book 5 showed a lot of unconditional support for Ron, it
has been believed that Luna would be nothing but a fangirl to Ron. Someone who would never challenge him or see
his bad qualities for what they are. This is disproven here, by Luna openly acknowledging both a good side to him
and a bad one.
Shantari: Now that we've discussed some of the things in book 6 in the interest of Ron/Luna, lets talk
about the infamous interview that JK Rowling did with Emmerson of Mugglenet and Melissa of Leaky Cauldron.
Moonstruck, if you may?
Moonstruck: Well, being as I am also a Harry/Hermione-shipper, I must say that I felt insulted at the
general assessment and discarding of shippers of this pair. Particularily the idea of us as Ron-haters. Being
that I defend and support Ron/Luna as much as I do Harry/Hermione, that bit stung the most. I know we who ship
both H/Hr and R/Lu often hear that we only pair up Ron and Luna to free up Hermione for Harry, and that is just not
true. If that were the case, and I truely hated Ron, I would never pair him with Luna. Because I, as most people
do, love Luna, and I wouldn't ship her with someone I didn't love or at least like and definetely not with someone
I hated. That's just bizarre.
Shantari: What's your assessment of the conduct of the interview, being as you have received
journalistic training?
Moonstruck: Well for starters, it was highly biased from a shipping point of view. Also, the interviewers,
of which one of them was a journalist, had a surprisingly great difficulty in obtaining answers from the author.
They had several opportunities of digging deeper and getting answers about some really interesting bits about the
series, particularily when Rowling had given an answer concerning the elements and the four houses (which is a very
interesting concept and could have revealed a good deal about the books) and the interviewers skipped over to Lily
and James! A child would have known to press on. Not to mention how JK was always in control of the interview,
never answering a question she didn't want to, sometimes asking the interviewers questions instead and never ever
letting something go deeper than she wanted it. It seemed the whole purpose of the interview could be
summarized into:
1. Ridiculing the shippers that were wrong, specifically the H/Hr-shippers.
2. Bringing up issues that would be answered in the last book, so that people would have to buy the last book
just to find out about it. (Because the Emmerson and Melissa dared not to press the issues. But hey, Rowling
gets monetary profit, why complain?)
3. Making Rowling look like a great author.
Otherwise it served little to no purpose. Few of the questions that were at all answered were of any real interest,
I mean even if Ron does manage to perform the patronus-charm before the end of book seven, what interest is it to
us that it is in the form of a Jack Russel terrier? For all the answers she gave, and how little influence Emmerson
and Melissa had in them being given, she could have easily made it into just another update at her site. On her
site she says that the reason for doing the interview with these two was that:
"The solution, I decided, would be a face-to-face interview with one or two true emissaries of the diehard fans,
capable of hitting me with the tough, book-seven-exploring, backstory-probing, inconsistency-highlighting,
character-analysing questions that I hardly ever get round to answering, and certainly not at book launch time."
Now, if all Emmerson and Melissa had done was getting the questions from the fans, via their fan-sites, they
could have given these questions to a proffesional journalist that was not a fan of Rowling, and who could have
asked the questions. Why not a fan? Because as evidenced by this interview a fan asking these questions, don't
really demand answers to them.
Shantari: Thank you, Moonstruck. Ladies and gentlemen, would you give her a hand?
*Audience starts clapping their hands, some giving out hoots and waving their Red Moon signs in a cheering manner.*
Shantari: That's it for today's show. Now remember, folks, the show's still running. So if you have some
thing that you want to ask Ron, Luna or Ron/Luna-shippers, don't hesitate to give us a mail or a call about
it. We're here for you!
And now a message from our sponsor.
*The lights turn off and the audience starts to disperse.*
Moonstruck: Ehhh, Shantari?
Shantari: yes?
Moonstruck: Who are these sponsors you keep refering to?
Shantari: Ehhhh... Actually, I dunno. Hey, Announcer!
*The Announcer returns on stage without his microphone.*
Announcer: Yes?
Shantari: Who sponsors this show anyway? It's not like we ever give a message from the sponsors, you just
always have me say that we do, so i doubt they're getting any advertisement. And if they're sponsoring us, what
does the money go to?
Announcer: Well, I was afraid that you would ask this one day.
*Announcer shots Shantari with a dart gun. Moonstruck looks worriedly at him.*
Announcer: Oh, don't worry. I won't shoot you, and she's only sedated. She will sleep soundly until the next
airing of the show and by then she will have forgotten all about this. Please do not ask about the sponsors
again, or I will have to sedate you as well.
Moonstruck: No worries.
*Moonstruck looks down at Shantari's lifeless body, as it laid sprawled over her desk.*
Moonstruck: You're just gonna leave her like that?
Announcer: Why not? She has no life outside of hosting this show, and perhaps being locked up in the
studio will assure us that the next episode won't be so long in the making.
Moonstruck: Hmm, if you put it that way... OK, but maybe we should give her a blanket or something?
*Announcer asks one of the assistents to cover Shantari up. Everybody leaves and locks the doors to the studio.*
Hehe, a long episode. One might call it a special. If you know of a wild R/Lu-missconception, or anything else
you think would fit in the show, bring it up in commentary. If not, then just comment. ^_^ Or not, it's
entirely up to you.
