Hello..it has been long since I posted here anything. This community became really inactive the past months but the last book
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is just 11 days away. It is now or never we'll get back on track. I at least try to kidnap this community for my own little, evol agenda anyway.
My personal aim is to post thoughts and analyses of the HP-World which aren't necessary from a Shippers PoV though I seriously doubt I will ever come across as...objectiv on this subject in the first place. I don't plan to turn this community into a non-shippy one, contrary the idea is to approach the story, Harry Potter, like we used to two years ago. We'll have in less than two weeks finally the chance to look at the whole story, the beginning and the conclusion.
Harry Potter and The maniac Shippers
Joanne K Rowling spent 17 years to write, create this world we all are so very familiar with by now. One could easily say that spending so many years on one story has become unusually. In literature writers take at least 2 or if it is really something huge 10 years on a story but 17? It is almost half her life. It is probably bold to argue this but this story needs to mean a whole lot to the author, it also must have quite of a message. Afterall nobody spends so many years on a project what's just meaningless or could be brushed off as simple children story.
What is HP about, what makes it to such a huge success? It is probably a very old nonetheless successful recipe. We were told in the very first book already what this story is trying to tell.
"Me!" said Hermione. "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things - friendship and bravery and - oh Harry - be careful!"
This is, funny enough, probably one of the most important messages JKR put into her story. They are more important than to be good at something, it is more important than to be pretty, it is more important than to be rich, more important than to be popular. Friendship and the bravery to stand to them and to do what has to be done this are all value's we all admire the most. It is this kind of dazzling effect Hermione had on us in PS/SS when she chose to lie rather than to sell Harry and Ron out. We didn't expect this from a goody good bookworm. We didn't expect that Sirius Black would become one of the closest thing of a father to Harry when we read the first time about a loss Prisoner in PoA. This ability to surprise, to amaze us is the very strength of this story. We read about a girl like Luna Lovegood and can't imagine she'll readily risks her life for Harry.
This story isn't about cool kids, about the people you easily can guess they are brave, loyal and do whatever they can to protect the one they love but it is about the everyday heroes. This is why HP became that successful. Because Harry doesn't has this extraordinary power like a Superman but is just that a usual boy, who is ready to fight for those he loves. This is the basic story here something what seems to get lost among the whole shipping issues in this fandom. The real Love-story isn't the one between Harry and a girl but it is between Harry and all the people he meets who care for him.
And that's where one asks why is shipping so very popular in this fandom, why are there things like a Ship War going on? Why if the story is about not judging a book just by its cover, if friendship is such a central topic in this story? The reason for this lies in this story too. HP starts out with Harry who lost his parents and is left in the care of people who simply hate him, miss treat him. The whole story starts with a Harry who doesn't know who he is, has no idea what it means to have a family who cares for him or anyone who really loves him. It is just natural for the reader to hope, to wish that someday due this 7 books he finds not only friends, adults who care for him but a girl who loves him for who he is and the connected promise that he'll have a family on his own. It is this hope or believe most readers have what makes all the obstacles, all the horrible times Harry had to go through in this journey worth it.
This also explains why shipping is in HP-Fandom so very intense. It is afterall a 10 year long journey by now and the dissapointment that Harry might not become the desired happy end becomes even bigger as more time passes bye.
By ll the crazyness about ships one shouldn't forget why HP became such a loved story. Now that we finally reach the end, it is now or never to put away bitterness and the dislike of HBP and to look forward to the last book. They can't take away the friendship and the love no matter what ship JKR will in the end write, remember that.
I was bit inspired by this clips, very good show and all.
