i've been a member of
kiva.orgfor almost a year and a half now. kiva is a website that combines micro finance with web 2.0/social networking and allows ordinary people like you and me to be micro financiers. you search for a loan that interests you from a long list of loans from small entrepreneurs (both singular and in groups) in different industries and developing countries all over the world. the loans are paid back over a period of time like 6 months to 18 months, and when you get the money back, you can withdraw it or re-lend that money!
like i said, i've been a member for awhile now and have made a
few loans. my first loan to a small shop owner in azerbaijan was repaid earlier this year. my current outstanding loans are to a vegetable farmer in cambodia, an auditor in bolivia, and a group of sewers/clothing sellers in bolivia. my latest loan is still
fundraising. if you also support the thi xuan vu group, then we can be kiva lending buddies!. it will be lent to a group of small shop and eatery owners in bac ninh, vietnam.
check out the site, and hopefully you'll join and start making "loans that change lives".
