shadowing

i shadowed today in the radiology department of bmc. it was awesome. i got to see a bunch of cool procedures. some of the highlights:

-bone scan
-gi bleed imaging
-ct scan
-lung tumor biopsy
-insertion of a permanent catheter into a patient's chest for chemo
-x-rays of a guy that jumped out a window
-ultrasound/removal of fluid from a lady's peritoneal cavity

and a bunch of other cool stuff.

i got to go to almost all of the different subdivisions of the radiology department, and also hung out in the er for a bit, and it was so cool. i talked to a bunch of the residents for a while, and met a lot of really awesome people.

i definitely want to go to med school. shadowing an anesthesiologist on thursday, which should also be cool because hopefully i'll get to see some good surgeries.

but yeah, i can definitely see myself working in a hospital in the future. it kind of motivated me to get on top of things and really work hard to get into med school now. after talking to the residents, i know med school is going to be tough. for radiology, you have to finish med school, then 5 years of residency, then another year or 2 for your specialty. so basically, i'd be in school forever. but i liked it. a lot.

unfortunately, i'm still not feeling great. hopefully i'll be better by friday when i move back in to school.
