Sadie Hawkins would have been so much more fun if the DJ had not sucked so bad. He played NOTHING but repulsive rap music, so this left one option for dancing styles. And with a date who prefers not to dance like that, it makes my night a tad challenging.
But let's rewind a bit. Sarah decided she was going to come home for the weekend, so Friday night, the main Brock family event was meeting her at the Charlotte train station. But of course, before doing that, we had to find some form of entertainment - I mean, it's Friday night! So what else would be the obvious choice but to go to Burlington Coat Factory and look for ski bibs? Not to mention that after putting on these grey bibs that look like a bad summary of the 1980s, I had to step out into the middle of the store so that mom AND dad could see them. And THEN the sales lady made me do squats in them to make sure they fit right. Of course I wasn't humiliated at all by this. Then, after purchasing the lovely bibs (who came up with that term for them, anyway?), we drove through NoDa before actually going to the train station. And we saw an arrest going on (one per month - this rocks!) and a female reporter in front of a huge line for a concert. And the train station, when we finally go there, was totally sketch. But the important bit was that Sarah came home, and I raspily talked to her with my sore throat, and we coughed together during our traditional late night viewing of "Titanic."
Of course, per usual, we had musical rehearsal the day of Sadie Hawkins. Frattini pushed it back to start at 9:00 AM, so we all came to rehearsal looking groggy and exhausted. I was talking in my head voice to save my voice for that evening, and of course got many remarks because I sounded very much like Minnie Mouse. We received our makeup kits, and the Silly Girls not only get HUGE Las Vegas-style eyelashes, but the reddest lipstick I have ever seen in my life. I'm also wearing this corset-like vest, so basically I'm a PG-rated whore in this show.
We got out of rehearsal right at 4:00, so I had time to get ready without rushing for the first time ever. Sarah straightened my hair, and the dress still fit! lol. Basically, I felt and looked good. I was a little ticked that I didn't get to have the car as we had planned 10 days in advance, but dad and Sarah dropped me off at Phil and Tony's quickly, so I could escape without feeling too dorky. Everybody looked great! Though it was hysterical, because we all shuffled around waiting for the rest of the group to arrive, and all stood holding our flower boxes. Then at dinner, it took us ages to order because we couldn't figure out how many pizzas we needed to feed the whole table. (Oh, but I was talking in a normal voice at this point, so that helped - I was coughing a lot, though) Alek was nice - he had had a long day with the Forum competition, but he was his normal self and dinner wasn't really awkward at all!
It was funny though, after dinner. Alek's parents are SO protective that driving is even an issue for him. I rode in the car with him basically serving as his driving coach. His parents even have a rule that he's not allowed to listen to the radio or talk in the car - definitely broke the talking rule, but Alek said he wouldn't tell. What a rebel. And THEN, we literally ran in Elizabeth's house for pictures, and I became the official flower pinner, because I've gotten used to boutonierres over the year. After some really quick pictures, we ran back to the car, and back to Phil and Tony's to pick up Elana and Gus. Cherry on top? Alek had to call his parents to let them know he had gotten to the dance safely. Gus and I had a laugh about mama Sharma during this phone call.
We were relatively early getting there, so we got dibs on the free necklaces and stuff they hand out. Glowing necklace in place, we attempted to hit the dance floor. But the rap music was really bad. I mean, there were hardly any recognizable songs in there. Highlights would have to include "Soulja Boy" though, because I sort of started a group of people who all did the dance. For not exactly knowing the dance, I felt pretty cool. I tried to meander around and dance with other people, too (though I heard it made Alek a tad jealous - oh well). The list includes Tom, Daniel, Ashi, Korde, Mitch, and surprisingly, Jack. He asked me to dance, and it sort of made up for the damage that was done at last year's Sadie. I caused a scandal by dancing with Ashi - we sort of got it on, and his friends all thought I was challenging his relationship with his girlfriend. Not to worry - I chatted with her afterwards, and there is no actual drama.
Another huge highlight was when three of Charlotte Latin's few African-American students were dancing to this one song that had a "hoo!" on every fifth beat and they'd do this hand motion with it. Alek and I joined in, and they laughed at us, and we laughed at them. It was a good time all around. They were playing that same song on 96.1 when Sarah and I were driving home. I need to find out what it's called...
So, things I left out... I'm still sick. Sore throat has turned into a bad cough that made me stay home from school today. I found a monologue for a summer internship audition at CPCC, and I'm really excited. Anddd... that's really it. Kind of a summary of my life. Let me know if you need more info! lol Oh, and if someone actually puts some pics up on facebook, I'll post them on here so you all can see!
