Synopsis: The Iron Dragon Guild

I've taken a break from uploading Echoes of the Past and am now focusing on getting my two earlier novels online. Today I managed to get the first ten chapters of The Iron Dragon Guild up. Please check it out if you have the time! Although they are old works I am still interested in hearing any thoughts or criticism. It'll give me some insight on how to further improve, and also to see what readers are looking for these days.

The Iron Dragon Guild was the first book my sister and I collaborated on, and I feel this title gives more insight into my childhood. Last names of minor characters were taken from snail-mail pen pals I had during my youth (shout out!). Plus, you might find a lot of throw-backs to our favorite entertainment of the time, like TV and Broadway musicals, including some similarities to actors we both had crushes on. XD ♡

It is another fantasy adventure, probably more suited for young adults as we were teenagers ourselves during the planning and writing. But the entire book is built around a space odyssey theme, so it is a little sci-fi too. Sadly, science was neither of our forte and I apologize for the lack of factual outer space or alternate timeline theories.

Continue on for the full book overview (spoiler warning):
Synopsis:

By the year 2203, on a futuristic Earth technology, pollution, and chaos threaten to bring Armageddon. It seems too late for the human inhabitants to stop the inevitable doom of the planet-a doom they themselves created-so in one final attempt to redeem humanity, a voyage is created and a team of worthy candidates are launched into space. Aboard the starship The Redemption, their goal is to find a livable world and use the same technology which destroyed Earth to help the alien races of a new planet.

The crew consists of 35 brave men and women, all dedicated to their mission. They find a similar planet, still in its medieval stage, where Nature is lush and green and Magic is real. They encounter two new races on the planet, in a land known as Cordova: the elven-like Elflins and those similar to Earth's human race, Delphrays. Even though these people have long since mingled, the crew find it hard to blend in without disrupting the world.

So they create personas to live by in the outside society. The head officers take on more fitting roles:

Their chief, Anthony "Captain" Bushkill, the doctor Fiona "Doc" Richardson, head computer engineer Liorah "Spirit" Campell, security chief Noel "Strider" Nemeth, mechanical chief Virgil "Engineer" Artim, and lieutenant Ian "Robinhood" O'Mara.

They learn more of their new planet when one of their youngest crew, Kione Hayami, discovers she had the talent to wield Magic, thus giving her the code name of "Merlyn".

Living in the secret dwellings of a mountain and behind the façade of a guild of a reputable smithy, they create the one instrument to reach their mission's goal: the Iron Dragon. With the mechanical beast the crew from the chaotic Earth help the people of this alien world and become their ultimate do-gooders.

Until the Iron Dragon Guild's secret mountain hideaway is uncovered by an ambitious young member of the King's Royal Guards, a boy named Perin. They must decide to risk being fully discovered, or make the guard who's seen too much one of them. In a possibly dangerous attempt they confront the youth with their unheard of proposition and unbelievable history. Along with the haunting beauty of Merlyn, to whom Perin is instantly attracted, they convince the boy to join their team as an outside informant.

But their quiet, reclusive ways are threatened more each day. Tamarack, an evil plotting wizard in the employment of the High King Lorn, is out to capture the Dragon for his own dark purposes; he wishes to use the monster to locate legendary scrolls that will enable him to unlock the mysteries of true Black Magic-ancient powers which had been sealed away to protect this world from its reign of destruction.

The Earth crew is quickly thrown into a world of blood and Magic. Young Merlyn and Perin find themselves caught up in a whirlwind romance amongst the rising threats; while Strider becomes increasingly leery of their new comrade and more ferocious towards Robinhood for his uncouth methods in the outside society.

Then Tamarack learns of the Guild's connection to the Dragon. With a spell the villainous wizard invades Strider's hate-filled mind and uses his eyes to gain access to the information he seeks. Until finally Tamarack seizes control over the mechanical monster, sending the Iron Dragon Guild into turmoil when he uses the beast to run amok, against their good intentions.
