Girlpower spam!

Mar 09, 2017 18:52

It was International Women's Day yesterday, so I thought we could have some girlpower spam. E.g. tell us your favourites female characters, role models, etc. And a good chance to talk about RH's women - I always thought that Marian and Djaq were great characters, for instance. And of course tell us how you are and what you're up to ( Read more... )

I have a cold and I'm too tired to write anything in depth today, but here are some images I digged up from my LJ scrapbook.

As a child I loved this TV show and as an adult I am fascinated with the real life of Laura:

Below a sigtag I made for someone else in Land of Art challenge comm. Edith was one of my favourite characters in Downton Abbey as well:

I used this once I posted spam. A whole bunch of Marians:

For a Land of Art challenge, though I don't remember what the theme exactly was:

Slightly related to Downton Abbey, has anyone seen the mini-series Jamaica Inn? It will be on TV here next week. It stars Jessica Brown Findlay who played Sybil in Downton Abbey.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Hope you get well soon.

And some lovely images.

I grew up watching Little House on the Prairie and have read most if not all the books ( a long time ago).

Love Edith on Downton Abbey too.

Well, now that I don't have a job, at least I can stay in bed and rest, no matter what day of week it is.

I didn't read 'Little House' books until I was an adult. I bought them at a flea market once and later got most of the English versions as well. And a few years ago I bought one of the biographies of Laura and I got a whole new viewpoint to things mentioned in the books. For a long time I've had an interest in the time period in which Laura Ingalls Wilder lived.

I hope you had a nice weekend.

Ooh. A lot of my favorites here. I am a child of the 70s so my girlhood was all Little House on the Prairie and Holly Hobbie - very gingham and denim laden with a few sunflowers thrown into the mix. Laura had spunk.

I loved Edith, too. Talk about characters who grown on you. I wouldn't have pegged her as a fave in Season 1.

Oh right, Holly Hobbie :). I doubt it was as big a deal here as it was in the US but I do remember it from postcards and calendars and such. I'm pretty sure I still have a Holly Hobbie notebook saved from my childhood :). It has old world charm to it.

I hope you feel better soon. I loved these pictures.

I really liked Edith in Downton Abbey too, especially as the series went on. I so wanted her to end up happy.

Your Marians reminded me of the wonderful Patrick Bergin Robin Hood (where Uma Thurman was Marian). So good. And I heartily approve of the Raiders of the Lost Ark picture too :)

I have somewhat mixed feelings about that Robin Hood. I wasn't really sold on the actors chosen for their roles but I was okay with the way the characters were portrayed. There were some fun moments, too. But Costner's RH got so much attention at the same time that it overshadowed the Bergin/Thurman RH. That was my impression anyway.
