While I wait for the call my Boss wants me on, I'm going to type up ALL THE FEELINGS about last night's TV, aka, Terra Nova and Hawaii Five-0. Spoilers for upcoming things as well as things aired already.

I saw your post on fanficrants and kept wondering where the "tranny" comment came from, so I'm glad I found your reaction post here. You know, there's fans and then there's fandom i.e. there are people who post about shows on the internet and there are real fans who have a bit more sense. Some are "people who just wandered in off the street and called themselves fans" -- and these must be the types who use slurs and insults for characters they don't like or who are like the ones I've heard about in Supernatural "fandom" who dislike the RL girlfriends/wives of the actors and say horrible things about them. These people aren't mature, they aren't able to censor themselves and they think they can say these kinds of awful things because they have the anonimity of the internet. They're here today and gone tomorrow and I doubt they will produce anything lasting in fandom, like serious meta, fic or art, so even though it's rant-worthy that this person said this (and why even use that insult??? It doesn't even make sense. It's like they use a word just because it's insulting, not because it relates in any way to the person they intend to insult. Like someone saying "that's so gay" when whatever they're talking about has nothing to do with "gay" but they know that to call it that is a put-down.)in the scheme of things, in the fandom world that matters, people are a bit more mature and have a bit more sense. I wouldn't want to have people who are that messed up and immature messing up a nice fandom like we've got here for H50 and I hope that person is jumped on by lots of people for talking that way about the character. Regardless of whether we like or dislike her, insults like that shouldn't be tolerated and bashing should only occur in one's personal journal/space rather than posting someplace wider and saying that "I hate her so I'll say whatever I want." If the person saying that actually had any respect for those who may like Lori, she wouldn't be bashing her that way. Sounds like a very entitled young-ish person to me. And I'm sorry that it was posted and you had to deal with it, but at least most of the "real" fans out here have more sense. (Lord, I sure hope so!) Believe me, I've been in fandom for many years and I've seen and heard some weird stuff that made me want to run back to mundane-land many times, but the good parts of fandom have always keps me here.

Lori wasn't given much to do that couldn't have been done by anyone else in this week's ep and when you pile that into the plot holes and the lack of Danny and lack of scenes between Steve and Danny, it would seem easy to hate her, but bashing seems a bit excessive to me. Especially that way. Sigh. We can only hope that next week will be better and that fans that use such insults will wander off in search of some other thing to keep them busy and stay out of our sandbox.
