Decided that I needed to drag myself back from lurkerdom of both LJs and fandom. hence, decided to type out an idea of mine yesterday afternoon. Just a very short cookie to bring mysef back.

Title: Cookies
by Lils

The soft aroma of cookies wafted in the air. Hermione gave a sigh of satisfaction as she smiled at the plate of cookies on her kitchen table. It was her first attempt at baking cookies, and she was glad it went well.

At least it did in her opinion. She was holding a small dinner party to celebrate Ginny’s birthday that day in the house that she shared with her best friends, Harry and Ron. Since the year before, after they had graduated, they had lived in this house together.

“Harry,” she called up the stairs as she left the kitchen. “I need your help.”

“Ok, love, I’m coming down. Wait a minute,” Harry said as he approached Hermione. “That smells nice,” he added with a smile and gave her a light kiss on the lips.

Hermione grinned at him and handed him a cookie. “What do you think?”

Harry took a small bite and carefully munched on it, maintaining an expressionless face all the while and looked up at Hermione. “Well…it’s good! I like it,” he smiled.

She heaved a sigh of relief. “I’m glad that went okay. Thank you, Harry,” she said and kissed him then turned to clear up the table. What she didn’t see was Harry discreetly grimacing before finishing up the cookie.

“Too sweet,” he muttered softly and left the kitchen.

In an attempt to save everyone and Hermione from the embarrassment, Harry endeavored to get rid of the cookies all day. However, none of his attempts were successful.

Harry decided to try hiding them all during dinner. Their guests finally arrived. Hermione dishes were all sumptuous and everyone enjoyed them.

Halfway through, Harry excused himself to go to the toilet when he silently sneaked to the kitchen.

He quickly got the plate and was about to sneak out when Hermione entered.

“Harry, what are you doing with my cookies?” she frowned, as she attempted to get the plate from him.

“I wanted to steal it of course,” Harry replied with a grin at her. She looked at him with a glare that was rather reminiscent of Professor McGonagall.

“Give me the plate, Harry!” she demanded.

“Is something wrong, dear?” Mrs. Weasley’s voice floated in from the dining room.
Hermione opened her mouth as if to yell loudly. Harry, in a rush said, “Everything’s fine,” and covered Hermione’s mouth with his hand.

She looked furiously at him and lunged forward to grab the plate. Harry sighed. There was only one way out.

Without another thought, he leaned in and pressed his lips to hers. She gave a start of surprise and stepped back slightly. Then, she relaxed and her arms went round his neck and she kissed him back passionately. The plate of cookies lay forgotten, until Harry accidentally knocked them over.

“Oh!” Hermione gasped as the two of them sprang apart.

Mrs. Weasley hurried into the kitchen at that moment. “What happened?”

Hermione blushed, and said, “I was clumsy. Harry was trying to help me, that’s all.”

“Oh, okay then, Reparo,” she muttered and left.

Hermione gave Harry a look. “I’m sorry, Hermione, about the cookies. You’re not angry with me, are you?” he looked at her with pleading eyes.

She flushed, “Oh, no. Of course not. It’s okay Harry.”

Harry smiled at her, and grabbed her around the waist. She melted against him, and kissed him back. “I love you, Harry.”

“I love you, Mione, with all my heart. I don’t know since when, but you’re the most important person to me in the entire world. Ever since the troll in first year, you’ve always been with me, through tough times. I love you.”

Hermione sighed, closing her eyes. He hugged her tightly to him, and they stood there, together, in a tight embrace, without a word. For none were needed. All they needed was their love.
