Day 1: We drove south from 8 till 2 am, then checked into a hotel.
Day 2: We drove south from 9 to 2:30, then I had an "interview" at 3 in Greensboro. The second interview that I thought I would have in Winston-Salem at 4:30 turned out to be a bust, so I made an appointment with another school in Greensboro. Then we left for our hotel in Hickory, NC, and checked in for the night.
Day 3: Job Fair for the northwest region of NC from 9 to noon. Afterwards, called the principal I interviewed with the day before, to find that he was still conducting interviews and would let me know. (He never did.) I called a couple of high schools in Iredell County I was advised to call by a recruiter, and made an appointment to interview with one that afternoon. I interviewed at 2 pm at North Iredell High School, and did a damn good job! Afterwards, we drove 3.5 hours east for my next job fair. Upon getting there, discovered that my brakes were grinding and would probably need replacing. Shopped for groceries at Walmart for our camping out the next two days.
Day 4: Job Fair for the southeast region of NC from 9 to noon. While I was there, S took my car to get the brakes fixed at Goodyear. I owe him big money. Ugh. After the job fair, started driving towards the Outer Banks. On the way, discovered that the ferry required reservations to be made days if not weeks ahead of time. Oops. So we found an alternate route driving that got us there at about the same time- wait to go super navigating me! Arrived at Ocracoke Island Campground, set up camp, and ate out- VERY yummy food.
Day 5: Slept in!!! Enjoyed a day at the beach, collected shells, jumped waves in the ocean, and got a real nasty sunburn all over my back, neck, knees and calves. Ugh. Damn sunblock must have washed off. (waterproof my ass!) Later cooked a yummy grilled dinner, walked down the beach in the evening and watched the crabs scuttle in the sand. Went to bed at dark, and was literally eaten alive by sand fleas aka "no-see-ums". We packed up camp and left by 6 am, after a pretty sleepless, miserable and painful night.
Day 6: Drove to Williamsburg, VA. Checked into a hotel, and got cleaned up (I don't think I have ever been as thankful for a made bed and shower!). Went out to see the town and get dinner. Did some more outlet mall shopping, and returned to the hotel for the night.
Day 7: Saw nearby Jamestown, the first U.S. settlement. Pretty cool sites, but extremely hot, humid weather. Ugh. Left around 4pm, and headed home. We got home 12 hours later. S is crazy for driving that whole trip, but that's what he wanted!
Day 8: Spent the day at S's house, unpacking, doing laundry, and tending the gear. Another valuable lesson we learned- never pack up camp wet and not unpack the tent later to dry it out. It was so gross!!!! And then of course, later on that day, I was cooking dinner when I got the job offer! Sweet!!!!
Sooo.... many ups and downs. Actually, quite a few disasters this trip, and I felt pretty bad for S, having to drag him along into all my business... but all in all, it was time well-spent!
